Lenovo Acquisition of Motorola Complete

Lenovo, who announced the acquisition of Motorola Mobility in January, has announced that the acquisition is now final and complete: Motorola is now a Lenovo-owned company.

Motorola, the #3 smartphone manufacturer in the United States, was purchased for $2.91 billion, and had this to say about the acquisition:

As excited as we are about what’s changing, we’re also pleased with what we are carrying forward with us. We will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo and remain headquartered in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart while maintaining offices around the world, including in Silicon Valley. The iconic Motorola brand will continue, as will the Moto and DROID franchises that have propelled our growth over the past year. We will continue to focus on pure Android and fast upgrades, and remain committed to developing technology to solve real consumer problems. And we will continue to develop mobile devices that bring people unprecedented choice, value and quality.

As said by Motorola, the DROID and "Moto" smartphone series will continue to be in manufacture, and Rick Osterloh, Moto's president and chief operating officer will be staying on his positions with the company.

Chairman and CEO of Lenovo, Yang Yuanging, had this to say:

The acquisition of such an iconic brand, innovative product portfolio and incredibly talented global team will immediately make Lenovo a strong global competitor in smartphones. We will immediately have the opportunity to become a strong global player in the fast-growing mobile space. We are confident that we can bring together the best of both companies to deliver products customers will love and a strong, growing business. Lenovo has a proven track record of successfully embracing and strengthening great brands – as we did with IBM’s Think brand – and smoothly and efficiently integrating companies around-the-world.  I am confident we will be successful with this process, and that our companies will not only maintain our current momentum in the market, but also build a strong foundation for the future.

Google's Larry Page also threw in a comment on the deal, saying that Motorola is in great hands in the Lenovo ownership.

Is this acquisition a mistake or a blessing for Motorola? Lenovo? Weigh in on this in the comments.

A NEW MOTO MAXX (Global version of Droid Turbo)

Posted By KaChow in DroidRzr News and Reviews

This is what I was waiting for... Not a fan of Verizon too much for obvious reasons, but seems that Verizon is not getting exclusive rights to the Droid Turbo well... maybe in the US market they are... We'll see about that. But looking at the Global band frequencies this device should easily work on AT&T and T-Mobile without a problem. Besides, albeit you can get a bootloader unlock key under the Moto Maxx name faster than a Verizon Droid Turbo.

Looks like a press event is being held in Brazil on November 5th. Here is more info from gsmarena.com

The end of Punit Soni at Motorola

17 Sep 2014

Posted By Thach in DroidRzr News and Reviews

Like everyday, I come home for lunch and first thing I do is check google+. Normally it seems like a quiet day though but today not so much. Punit Soni has officially released a statement saying he is leaving Motorola. To me, this is HUGE.

Punit Soni was well known for connecting with fans and members of google+ often. He was very open (as much as he legally could be) when discussing matters dealing with Motorola and their devices. This to me is a huge loss for Motorola when everything seemed to be going so good. Good luck to Punit Soni and here's hoping that Motorola has someone who can fill his shoes.

Droidrzr.com updates

15 Sep 2014

Posted By Thach in DroidRzr News and Reviews
I am proud to announce on behalf of the rest of the team a couple updates to the site. While a couple are minor, one is something that was long loved, removed, and is now making a comeback.

A bug has been fixed that caused the time stamps to be off a little. This wasn't anything too serious, just became annoying after a while.

Secondly is the new addition of some emoticons. If you haven't used them much then its no big thing.

The biggest thing is chat is being brought back. Our chat was always popular for hanging out and getting quick help. It was a sad day when it was taken down because it was one of our most useful tools.

Thanks to all the staff and member for feedback and everything. We hope everyone enjoys the new features. If you ever have any ideas you'd like to see implemented, please let us know and we will see what we can do.

NO Moto X+1 Developer Edition for VZW

06 Sep 2014

Some bad news on the Moto X+1 came out last night through Google+ from none other than Punit Soni. When a post was made asking him if there would be a Dev Edition of the Moto X+1, the answer receive was a shocking and disappointing one. Punit Soni responded to the question quickly by saying "unfortunately no".

There was no further explanation made by Punit and the only other response he made in the post was asking if everyone participating was on VZW.

With the success of the Moto X this is a shocking turn. I'm not sure how many Dev Ed Moto X devices were sold for Verizon but I would have imagined that even more would have been sold for this time around now that people have a taste of what this device brings.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you care that no Dev Ed will be available?

Think These Apps are Secure? Think Again!

04 Sep 2014

We've known for a while now that there are apps on the Play Store that don't perform proper security certifications over HTTPS, leaving them, and by extension you, vulnerable to man in the middle attacks, whereby you think you're interacting with a secure app server, but are really communicating with an attacker.  Using SSL certification over HTTPS is supposed to protect against this, but only when it's done properly.  Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have begun to compile a list of apps available in the Play Store that either don't perform proper SSL certification, or worse, don't do it at all.  The list of vulnerable apps is HERE, prepare to be shocked at some of the names you see on this list.
