The end of Punit Soni at Motorola

Posted By Thach in DroidRzr News and Reviews

Like everyday, I come home for lunch and first thing I do is check google+. Normally it seems like a quiet day though but today not so much. Punit Soni has officially released a statement saying he is leaving Motorola. To me, this is HUGE.

Punit Soni was well known for connecting with fans and members of google+ often. He was very open (as much as he legally could be) when discussing matters dealing with Motorola and their devices. This to me is a huge loss for Motorola when everything seemed to be going so good. Good luck to Punit Soni and here's hoping that Motorola has someone who can fill his shoes.

Droidrzr.com updates

15 Sep 2014

Posted By Thach in DroidRzr News and Reviews
I am proud to announce on behalf of the rest of the team a couple updates to the site. While a couple are minor, one is something that was long loved, removed, and is now making a comeback.

A bug has been fixed that caused the time stamps to be off a little. This wasn't anything too serious, just became annoying after a while.

Secondly is the new addition of some emoticons. If you haven't used them much then its no big thing.

The biggest thing is chat is being brought back. Our chat was always popular for hanging out and getting quick help. It was a sad day when it was taken down because it was one of our most useful tools.

Thanks to all the staff and member for feedback and everything. We hope everyone enjoys the new features. If you ever have any ideas you'd like to see implemented, please let us know and we will see what we can do.

NO Moto X+1 Developer Edition for VZW

06 Sep 2014

Some bad news on the Moto X+1 came out last night through Google+ from none other than Punit Soni. When a post was made asking him if there would be a Dev Edition of the Moto X+1, the answer receive was a shocking and disappointing one. Punit Soni responded to the question quickly by saying "unfortunately no".

There was no further explanation made by Punit and the only other response he made in the post was asking if everyone participating was on VZW.

With the success of the Moto X this is a shocking turn. I'm not sure how many Dev Ed Moto X devices were sold for Verizon but I would have imagined that even more would have been sold for this time around now that people have a taste of what this device brings.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you care that no Dev Ed will be available?

Think These Apps are Secure? Think Again!

04 Sep 2014

We've known for a while now that there are apps on the Play Store that don't perform proper security certifications over HTTPS, leaving them, and by extension you, vulnerable to man in the middle attacks, whereby you think you're interacting with a secure app server, but are really communicating with an attacker.  Using SSL certification over HTTPS is supposed to protect against this, but only when it's done properly.  Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have begun to compile a list of apps available in the Play Store that either don't perform proper SSL certification, or worse, don't do it at all.  The list of vulnerable apps is HERE, prepare to be shocked at some of the names you see on this list.

KorBanker Malware, Now Stealing Your SMS Messages!

04 Sep 2014

KorBanker is a malicious Android app that has been known of by security researchers for about a year now.  Rearing its ugly head primarily in Korea, KorBanker disguises itself as a legitimate banking app that, once installed, steals a user's banking credentials.  Security pros who have been researching this app have recently discovered that KorBanker has also been stealing SMS messages from devices.  Researchers who were conducting an analysis of one of KorBanker's command and control servers uncovered a database of text messages that included quite a few passwords and authentication codes.  Passwords and codes for things like Facebook, VPN passwords, and Google two step verification codes.  As previously stated, for now KorBanker has been most prevalent in Korea, however it doesn't take much of a leap of the imagination to see something like this pop up in the good ole U.S.  So allow me a moment to beat on the same dead, rotten horse I've been smacking around for a while now:  BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT APPS YOU INSTALL!! Especially apps that you install from sources other than the Play Store.  But be careful with those too.  Seriously.  Read more about KorBanker HERE

New Battery Monitoring App Estar Ranks Apps in Play Store

02 Sep 2014

A startup based out of Purdue University has released a new battery monitoring app to the Play Store.  Called Estar, this one does pretty much what you'd expect from a battery monitoring app; let you know what apps are using the most power, and allow you to shut them down.  Where this one is different is that it not only offers suggestions for similar apps you can install to replace the most power hungry ones on your device, but also ranks apps in the Play Store based on their energy efficiency.  So now you'll know if that new app everyone is talking about will be a power hog before you buy and install it.  The battery conscious among you can grab the app HERE.

Parental Control App Ignore No More Lets Parents Remotely Lock Their Kid's Phones

22 Aug 2014

Ignore No More is an app that has been featured by several news outlets as of late.  It allows parents to remotely lock their kid's phones is  preset number of calls or text messages go unanswered by their children.  Once the parent decides to lock down their kid's phone after getting no response, the kid's device will only be allowed to make phone calls to numbers that are saved in the "In Case of Emergency" contact list, which is where the parent's number must be stored.  Once the kid stops ignoring the parent, the parent can then remotely unlock the kid's phone.  Based on the reading I've done, the app doesn't sound perfect, but it does raise the question of how many of you out there are looking for and/or would use an app like this? Chime in below, and read more about this app HERE.
