I'm still looking for that write up but basically your gonna turn the phone off. Remove sdcard and sim card. Soak in 99% isopropyl alcohol for about 30 mins. Then dry off with a towel and leave by a heater for a while. Do not use a blow dryer as might push moisture further into the device. Leaving it next to a fan on low is ok but i would still leave it next to a heat source. After it has been by the heater for a good bit place it in the rice with the hard keys down overnight. Once you take it out of the rice wipe it down again with a towel to remove any moisture on the outside if the device. Insert sim and sdcard and power on the device and hopefully problem is solved. Basically what we are trying to do is remove any corrosion caused by the water damage with the isopropyl alcohol that may be causing an unstable connection. Then removing any moisture with the heat and rice. This is just a suggestion. By all means do not try it if you are unsure or think that I'm a looney. Please Google this method and see if it has worked for others. This should be a last resort if nothing else works and your phone is unusable for daily use anyhow.

That might help with the volume down button not working but usually there is corrosion on the motherboard or the battery connection that causes the "safe mode" to kick in. I know submerging your phone in alcohol doesn't sound like a good idea so I understand your hesitancy. Only way to avoid that and still remove the corrosion would be to disassemble your phone and remove the motherboard and just soak it. That is a difficult task and can be more risky then soaking the whole phone. But like I said, read up on it and only do what you are comfortable doing. Sad thing is that warranties don't cover water damaged devices so you either end up paying a deductible or dishing out money for a new phone. Both sound crappy to me lol. Don't these people understand we talk on our phones while sitting on the pot? Haha Sorry for the ill timed humor.

thanks. i got a bit freaked when i did it though the phone turned on by itself when i was rinsing it and froze on the boot screen for a good 8minutes or so and it was making noise. but then it turned off by itself and booted into ap fastboot so i shut it off and continued cleaning it. but it restarted but this time it started normally out of safe mode so i just shut it down and finished up and let it dry. its all good now though haha

Ok, I'm an Old School repair guy in the biz 21 years, 18 with my own shop. I'm a hardware guy mainly and have only dabbled in the software side. Judging by this string, it seems you guys are the opposite. I have a customer who brought in an xt907 with Vzw, it powers on,  lcd & digitizer is fine, but will not get past the Start(English) screen. After I press next, it tells me to "Please Wait, this may take a few miutes.". This goes on and on and never gets past this. I've tried it with the SIM in and out. I tried to by pass activation screen and it takes me to the Motorola legal page, then back to English page. I tried to hard rebbot (Power and Vol. up) and it takes me to green Android guy with exclamation mark in it. But when I press both Vol. up and down at same time, it doesnt do anything. If I hold the power button about 60 seconds it will reboot back to activation screen(After normal wakeup). I opened it up and there is no eveidence of liquid damage, and i know what to look for. The customer said they made a call on it, put it down, and then this happened. T this point I dont know what to do and havent flashed anything since the LG Rumor flash came out. I can only hope someones expertise in software will help me save this phone. Thanx in adavance.

BTW. I have cleaned hundreds, maybe thousands of liquid damage phones. Save the rice for dinner; it dries it out just as quick on a breezy window sill, but never dries out completely. Phones are like tupperware and I have seen moisture in them 60 days after expposure. Take the phone to an Old School guy who knows how to open them up without damaging. The alcohol is good, but only on the MoBo; so is alcohol in an ultrasonic cleaner. Dry thouroughly, reinstall. Dont let alcohol get in or near the battery or lcd. Near the battery and you may create your own IED. Get it in or near the LCD and it will ghost it at best; maybe destroy it. Always use the alcohol in well ventilated area or outside(Thats where I use my ultrasonic). The fumes are killers as I can atest. Hope this helps.
