I followed all the directions and steps but the process does not root the phone. all I get is:
"failure [install_failed_VID_ changed]"

Check the attached picture. Help if you can!

Are you debloated at all? Running any Custom ROMs? Bug2Go is a service from motorola. If youre on stock, are you 100 sure you have the correct exploit?

The info about how root is so varied that I have tried several "Auto" root packages and NONE work. You asked if the phone has been "debloated". Please explain what you asking

Chriswyn,
Can you post a screen shot of your "about phone" screen? That way we can see what build your sitting on, which will make it easier to find the correct utility to get you rooted. Then if we use the correct utility, and it still fails you'll have narrowed down the issue and troubleshooting will be a little more precise

Thanks for jumping in man. :) I am out of my depth with the M. Most OG Razr stuff I can handle but it's hard to troubleshoot a phone I've never had.

I'm shooting in the almost dark. I picked up an m on craigslist less than two weeks ago. Haha. I'm still relatively new to it, but its pretty similar to my old RAZR, so most of the same principles so far

Alright, now we know you're definitely on jelly bean. I just rooted my Ma few days ago, let's see if the same process works for you.

Go to this page, and in the second post, download the link that says root JB, with supersu

(I don't think it matters, its just the one I ended up using)

While its downloading, go to your phone and select settings/developer options/ enable developer options, and check the box to enable USB debugging.

Plug your phone into your computer, and let it install the drivers. Usually this starts automatically.

Once the root utility has downloaded, extract it, and select the run file.

After that it should go pretty smoothly, wait for it to give you the option to do the bug report, hit the button Combo it asks for, and let's see what happens
