Ok, here's my thoughts on the legality issue:

How is this any different than your local high school booster club doing a raffle for a $100 gift card to a nice restaurant? Think about it, high schools don't get in trouble for this. Why would we?

I live in NC, the king of all "absolutely no gambling" states. I donated 50 bucks to my coworkers son's high school lacrosse team for 10/entry into a raffle for 100 bucks in gas on a gas card.

I could be totally wrong but this doesn't seem to fit into the "gambling" category... At all

Unfortunately, I believe that the examples you cited are illegal in NC.

One difference is that this raffle is being done in a very public way, with a sizeable number of emails sent to forum members. It would be very easy for one of those emails to end up at the attorney general's office.

Again, I'm not opposed to this personally. I've donated to this site in the past. The important thing is for the owners of this site to understand the issue and the potential legal risks.

How come everything something with money comes up JT, you are the one that brings stuff up.

First off we don't have to show nothing to know one cause we are a non-profit/tax exempt entity. If you want to see are income vs out I will privately show it to you. Know one is getting rich off of no donations or anything else. We barely cover our server cost per year and not to mention us giving away things.

To conclude this debate, I no the laws for what we are categorized under and I really don't care if your a lawyer or just some guy who don't have a life. We give more then we receive and that's the bottom line.

I can pull things from Google also in contrast to yours. Your pulling state legislature btw. What if we are based in Istanbul?

Also you have no clue who the owner is.
Move along.

In reality, DroidRzr is just the host. I am the giver and I have no legal ties to the website other than that of a member. I chose to giveaway this prize as gesture to those who support this website. By pulling from a list of names that can be found on DroidRzr's donation page and in my thread, I am choosing to randomly pick one of those names. The property in question belongs to me, personally. I am not giving it to DroidRzr for them to distribute, I am merely using their site to promote and pull the contestants from. I was the one that used the word Raffle originally and that was my error, as this clearly does not fall under the definition of a raffle. Also, if you are using state law, even in NC, a non-profit is allowed to hold 2 raffles per year up to $125,000 in value -
