What's the difference between using cheesecake and using the file you posted? I would think they would have the same effect.

Only whether someone has tested them for safety before providing them, assuming the poster did test them.

No. Right thread, i was asking about ICS. I want to make sure I can run it. I am thinking about using the link once posted, here, but i want to make sure it is the official release and not f up my phone. I was just checking to make sure my phone is ready. Yhaank you.

If I'm not mistaken, any frozen apps need to be unfrozen, and you can keep root by using the rootkeeper app. Once the OTA is available it might be easier to just flash back to a fresh 173.

I have successfully flashed it using the cheesecake method. Here is a screenshot of the about screen. Upgraded kernel! Awesome!

Edit: FYI Chrome works correctly! Yay for hardware acceleration!

Curious if anyone managed to snag this file before Arcane took down the link, I'd be interested in playing with it (at my own risk, understand it is buggy, etc. etc.)

The cheesecake method installs the update like a normal update. Installing via recovery uses a slightly different method. The sideloader package fails when trying to install via sdcard for whatever reason.

I'm so excited for ICS... I'm probably about to wear down my F5 button on my keyboard over here waiting for the very smart people to figure out how to get this to install. Such a nice surprise for a Saturday morning. Thanks to the OP & others for all your help.

It was hard to find a non-broken link. I decided to upload it to Mediafire:

I highly recommend using RSD Lite and fastbooting or whatever to an OEM file. This ensures that there won't be any issues with the update. I did this because I had already installed Safestrap and i had an update issue before because of it.

To use cheesecake you will need to be rooted. I followed this video:

The server I used was in the Staging group. I believe it was the third one down and had "100" in it. Staging made the most sense to me because that's what comes before Production (when it gets to everyone).

Also, OTA Rootkeeper does work as mentioned in the first post.

Does the notification bar battery icon have numbers? 1% or 10% increments? Did they put back the power off charging LED?

Battery is still given in 10% increments. :(

In regards to the LED, I shut my phone off and plugged it into the wall and the LED on the phone does not light up.

I hope they have it in 1% increments. That's one annoying thing I HATE about Motorola phones. It's so inaccurate or well misleading. I hate when it says I have 80% battery when I really have 75, or I have 84...which one is it. I downloaded Circle Battery Widget to get in 1% increments... that way I know if my phone is really fully charged or just rounding up like it usually does.

Edit: Question already answered.. disappointing.

I am (finally) using the cheesecake method to download 6.14.75 from a Moto QA server... and it is SLOW. Like, 1% in 10 minutes slow. Might be quicker to wait until a dev posts a link again tonight lol ^_^.

Each time I switched servers it says I needed to setup a Moto account. I clicked Setup and waited for it to load. If it gives you a couple check boxes and an OK button, then it will go through and let you check for updates. However if it takes you to a "Setup WiFi connection?" screen then the server is down or otherwise an error has occured, and you should use the Cheesecake app to try a different server. Hope this helps.

I think I had a similar thing happen. It never actually had me setup an account in the usual username and password sense. It might be the server that's having problems. Just try different servers in Staging until you get one that tells you that you can upgrade to 6.14.75.
