i was just wondering if anyone has tried the windows 8 consumer preview? if so are you able to have your device recognized in ap fastboot mode? if so how did you do it? i am not recommending anyone get it. my phone is recognized on the computer itself just not in ap fastboot mode...cant go back to windows 7 either as i have lost my recovery disc to do so....so im pretty much on the losing end of being able to unroot my phone to get the stock ics when it becomes available. fml

nope....once we install it we are done with as there seems to be no way to revert back unless you have your disc to reinstall windows 7

I solved this one on Win8. Copy the drivers from the Motorola program files directory on a Windows 7 install to a flash drive. Load the drivers from that and your phone will work RSD RAZR Utility ADB ect....... in Windows 8 Customer Preview.

Any chance someone could upload those files? I don't have access to a windows 7 machine currently.

Here are the files I used, I'm running windows 8 as well

You can try the installer if that doesn't work just use device manager to manually choose the driver and point it to the Drivers folder.

I had win 8 consumer preview and though I was stuck as well. But, since I bought my Dell laptop with Windows 7, I own the right to have a copy of the disc. They just don't ship the disc with the computer like they used to. So I contacted Dell and game them the info from my computer and they mailed me a disc with Windows 7. My computer is back to normal again.

Oh cool. I had know with gateways, you can do a factory rest from bootup by hitting F4 then going through the recovery options. That's what I ended up doing with mine.

Anyone figure out how to use windows 8 for the utility yet? I have a mac, but the mac version isn't updated to 1.6. I can bootcamp windows 8, but don't own a copy of windows 7. Maybe I could use Tiny7 in a virtual machine or something if it has the necessary components? Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks...

Edit Oops, didn't realize the mediafire link above was for windows 8 :-P I'll try that unless anyone knows of an updated mac version...

I downloaded the windows 8 comsumer preview the first day it came out. I ran the installer and told it to keep all my programs and files and settings. I never had a problem using fastboot or adb (presumably since the drivers were installed in Windows 7 prior to the windows 8 upgrade)

Anyways im loving it and have not had a single issue with it yet :)

I'm not asking u guys to use pirated software, but u could download a pirated windows 7, make sure its the same version as the one u had, burn it to a DVD, and install from there. When asked to enter CD key out product key, enter your original product key, viola.

That's what I did when I lost my DVD. Microsoft recognize your windows as original because your still using your original product key

It's not pirated if you're using your genuine key that you bought. A Windows 7 dvd is just a Windows 7 disc (32 or 64 bit) . It's the product key is what makes it genuine and determines whether you have home, and professional or ultimate; and if you already own the key and it's on the original machine, then it's not illegal.

Although not exactly black content, it is highly frowned upon to do so. I can't remember how to find it, but MS does has a setup on their site where you can enter your product key and it will allow you to download. If I wasn't at work, I'd take the time to hunt it down for you. The thing that sucks is they make it stupidly hard to find, and the tech support normally denies it exists if you ask them to point you to it.

Edit>
Not the source I was talking about, but I had to hop back on the computer to order some parts from McMaster so I thought I would do a quick search :)

I wouldn't either, except I have a mac and I can install a full copy of windows 8 for FREE ;-) I'm not paying for windows 7 to use it on the rare occasion I can't do it with a mac...

I agree with you completely, but I'm not buying windows :-)

I think the only thing that may save windows 8 would be tablet sales.

I can get windows 8 for FREE though, so i can deal with metro enough to run the few windows programs I must ;-)

you don't have to burn the .iso on a DVD, it should also work mounted to the system as a VD using Daemon or A120 ;)

Its easier to so so this way.. Then restart your PC and boot from your DVD. Or, create a bootable USB stick, copy the whole windiws DVD onto the USB stick and boot from USB.

Forgot how I did it, but I learned about it from tech republic. Lots of useful stuff there
