The first command is simply "/system/su-backup", correct? I cant get past that without getting the error...

try everything again but DO NOT temp unroot. unless you already tried that. thats what i did and i retained root.

Is there any way of getting this to work through term? I get that first error, then it wont let me run the mount command. I ask as I'm away from home, and it seems like this method worked for many others, I dunno wtf I did different.

Also, make sure you go to the market, make sure your superuser is up to date, then open superuser and update the binaries before you protect root. Alot of the problems Ive seen come from protecting a version of Superuser.apk that do not have the updated binaries.

thats what i did and it worked fine for me. loaded up ICS then opened up Voodoo, hit restore root and it said i had root. i didnt believe it at first so i downloaded Terminal Emulator and typed su and it was granted su and worked.

that would be a good thing to check also. i did not do that but my binaries were already up to date

Agreed, I initially tried su_backup and got some "directory not found" or somesuch, but su-backup seems to have worked.

UPDATE: I can confirm that this method restored root for me, su works in terminal emulator, and root access is accepted in Rom Toolbox Pro and Screenshot It.

Just to clarify 1) I didn't fast boot back to anything before I did this and 2) I ran Voodoo OTA rootkeeper just didn't temp unroot b4 installing ICS.

Fixed my typo in the OP. According to feedback from other users, it should actually system/su-backup! Sorry, I'm exhausted today. Brain is fried after working on this all night last night! B)

Any help for us dumkoffs that didn't use root keeper to make a su backup? I still have su installed & in system/app, just no root permissions.

I don't think you can get root currently without making a backup, but you might be able to ask someone to upload their backup to you.

Would anyone be willing to upload a copy of your su-backup to help a brother out?

What is meant by protect root when "protect root not temp unroot"? I have rootkeeper voodoo but when I run it, it says delete TI or temp unroot. Boy must be way behind

Gratz, pretty excited now that I see more people having success with the ROM manager method.

I saw dh's post on twitter regarding the Terminal method. Do you just enter the long string of text within terminal? Unsure if it supposed to be multiple entries.
