Learned that what I've called a vertical jack hammer is actually a rotary drill that is used to make a pattern of holes that are then loaded with dynamite for each blast.  All of the white splotches are drilled holes and I hope to get another pic later after the blast.

This showed up this morning...Google sez it's a 'Cone Crusher'. Looks like they're gonna make their own gravel!

First, gotta say I'm NOT a videographer! Was told the blast would be set off about 5 minutes after the air horn sounded...it was more like 15 minutes and the clouds had moved in, the rain started, my hands cramped, noisy trucks went by and then they blew the air horn again...

Orig file too large for Gmail, so got a free app to trim it on the Bionic...twice!

Guess I can't upload this kind of file to the thread, sooo...let's try a link to you tube:

Would you think that they would use that cable for the 4 or 5 cell service providers that will use the tower? Maybe the 'control room' won't be located at the base of the tower?

Thanks for sharing and yes they can,

Depending on how they build it out, if the use light wave multiplexing they could have them all running on one fiber if they really wanted too.

I do find it odd that that fiber was not put on a pole though.

The day after the blast was a rainout, but they had two drills and a jackhammer working on the Fourth (Yay...triple-time!)

It looks to me like they've been 'terracing' the side of the hill to work toward removing rock/dirt in stages as they whittle the hill away.

As they clear the rubble from the blast, it will create Level Three and that will be worked down to Level Two which will be worked down to Level One...I've heard that the Cabela store itself will be on Level One rather than take the hill all the way down to the level of Lee Highway.

The top of the hill won't be worked on till the new cell tower is in operation and the old one is removed. I wonder if a helicopter will be used to remove the old tower or or assemble the new one..we'll see!

Today they are working the rubble from the blast...the front-bucket scoops it up and swings one way if it's filled with dirt or the other direction to pile up the broken rock. There's also a jack-hammer there to break up the larger rock or to wedge pieces up out of the dirt.

And yes, they're whittling on the other side (east) of the hill, too.

They have the crusher set up now...looks like 3 discharge conveyors, probably for different size aggregate.

Not much going on where I got the video, so I drove into the old trailer park area on the east side of the hill. There's a good sized gully between the hill and the park and still lots of trees in the gully but the ground near the park has been stripped.

Watched as a string of half a dozen dump trucks made their way up the shoulder of the hill on the left where they were filled with dirt/rocks and then driven back down to be dumped on a flat spot. There were two Cat D9 dozers there shoving the fill over the edge into the gully and packing it down. Another D9 and a road grader were widening and smoothing the 'roads' the dump trucks use going up and down.

I'm guessing the cable hadn't arrived before the power line was run in...today it it safely up off the ground and waiting for something to connect to!

Back fill and compaction is under way! This rings bells for me because in the '60s I worked on a back fill crew for Morrison-Knuteson on Minuteman missile sites out of FE Warren AFB around Cheyenne, WY. Same Cat D4 dozer pushing fill around, same vibrating roller compactors and same 10" lifts for each layer of fill.

In the distance between the trees you can see the WZAP Christian Radio station antennae tower that is on the hill behind our house.
