My girl has a RAZR HD which she dropped 2 days ago. Screen is shattered and stays black. we got a replacement from assurion and I have to send back this broken one. Only thing is she wants the pictures deleted from the phone before we send it back (far from PG rated stuff on there). I tried transferring by plugging into the PC but it says the folder is empty. Im unable to mount internal SD card or check off usb debugging. and she had no external SD card.

no im not familiar with ADB, but thats my last resort (learn it quick or have a friend pull from SD thru adb). Any way to mount (without looking at the screen) so i can do an easy transfer on the PC?

Thanks!

I'm sorry, but there really is no way to enable USB debugging without having access to the screen. That's kinda WHY it's like that. The theory is that a hacker or malicious tool can't gain access to your device unless you purposely choose to enable USB debugging. There is really no way to get into the phone without usb debugging. I would say, get it booted and then reboot into bootloader so you can use fastboot to erase your phone. But with USB debugging disabled, there is no way to send the command to the phone to reboot into the bootloader. And you could try to use the hard key combo to get it booted into the bootloader, but if you can't select "AP Fastboot" because of the dead screen then you're still SOL. IF the screen worked at ALL and you could get into AP Fastboot mode, then you could indeed erase the whole phone. But without having eyes or ADB debugging...I'm sorry. I'm low on ideas.

I would smash the crap out of that device and THEN send it back, really, if you're that worried about it. Make sure the screen and the memory don't survive. It's probably not the most honest thing to do, but if you're paying the deductible for a new device anyway, what's the difference? IDK, I can honestly say if there were dirty pics of MY girl on my phone that I could not get into, I would make damn sure the thing didn't live to see the the next person who accesses it. But that's your call, sir.

i wonder if someone with stock moto recovery can help you by posting pictures as to how you could wipe data and internal SD card. I don't think I every booted in to stock recovery. You should be able to use volume buttons to erase the phone, i think.

If you are not stock what recovery are you running someone could help.

I doubt anyone would look at the photos, they probably just wipe the phone, do you have a password on the phone? even after replacing the screen I doubt they could get past that without just erasing. However, the only way to be 100% sure they don't end up in the wrong hands is to keep the phone and pay the price for not returning it.

I know it's late, but connect a screen via the micro HDMI port.

A long as the digitizer works, it's clumsy but you will be able to enable to navigate.

Did it with my daughters Galaxy S3.

I save everything to a micro SD card so I never worry about this issue.

Or couldn't you install the app Plan B from a PC (using Google atop store) and remotely wipe the phone? App meant to be installed after phone is lost, so it "assumes" you have no use of screen.

Will this app erase both SD cards? That's a good idea though. A remote wipe.

Honestly not sure. OP said girlfriend didn't have an SD card in phone. On my phone, I think all photos store to removable SD card. I auto back them up to Dropbox, so if SD card fails, I don't lose pictures. This app has been around for a while, so I am not even sure if it will work on the newer OS.

There are many apps to remotely wipe the phone and SD card, but they may have to be installed/set up from the phone itself, which if the screen is totally broken, I have no idea how to get it working. Plan B worked to "find" my daughter's phone (Samsung Stratosphere) when she thought it was lost, and I did install it remotely, so that part worked....

If nothing else, it can't hurt to try it!
Good luck!

Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk 2

Here is a great Youotube video showing how to access your broken Razr HD with a couple cables(micro HDMI and USB mouse). You can get all your data(pictures, videos etc...).

Another reason why not to store PG13+ pictures on your phone! :)
