So, I rented a movie from the Play Store & downloaded it for offline viewing. I then located where it was downloaded to, made a copy of it, & saved it to my SD card. The file was saved as a .WVM (not WMV). I changed the file extension to WVM & tried to play it. I had to download MX Player & it started playing, but only played the first 10 seconds (the MIRAMAX logo). I also changed the extension to AVI with the same results.

Anybody know how to make it play the whole movie?

Did you check the file size to make sure it downloaded the entire movie?

Yes, I made sure to download the entire movie before I copied it. After I made the copy I watched the downloaded movie through the Google play movies app (all offline) to make sure that it was the whole movie. I also copied the file back to the original folder to see if the Google app would play it again, but it just deletes the file from that folder (I believe it does that because of the 24 hour window to watch it).

Just am FYI changing the file extension doesn't change the video format.

So you have watched the movie, and your rental period has ended. Are you trying to tactfully ask how to pirate these films then? If that is the case, then I have two points to make...

1) The file will have DRM, meaning only a player compatible with the DRM format Google is using will work. In a perfectly secure system, this would mean ONLY the Google Play Movies player will be able to do so.
2) This discussion seems to serve no further purpose that is permitted on these forums.

It's also one of the reasons the root check is built into the google movies system. They don't want you copying these movies. Play them in the google player. Let them expire when they expire. Circumventing that system is piracy and in the same boat as black app markets on this forum.

Not trying to pirate anything, just wanting to be able to watch it again. I already paid for it, not trying to get it for free.

You only paid a partial fee for a 24hr time period to watch. You didn't for instance by full rights to the product, so watching after the length of your license for free is still illegal.

Tough crowd here. I understand the issue. There is not a solution. Google play root checks your device and will not allow you to play their rented movies on them. You can watch it on your non rooted device (laptop) so you don't lose your money or request a refund and they will give it based on not allowing their movies to be played on rooted devices. Been through this twice and just stopped rented movies from Google play.

Have you tried to temp unroot with voodoo ota rootkeeper? I believe others have said that temp unrooting will allow you to watch Google movies... you can restore root after you watch the movie through the rootkeeper app...

I am on the Ice Cream Leak on my Razr Maxx and my Google Video says that I can get movies from the Play marketplace. On my tablet it says that I am rooted and can't watch movies. Haven't tried it on my Razr Maxx yet but it is different from my Xoom.
