Well, I was originally on .84 before I updated. It will not let me update to .85 this way but it would let me do .84 so I am unbricked.

Also, for those that just like using rsdlite you can use the xml above. It flashes everything but the error files. This xml is for the 81 files, not the ICS files.

For those of us still on .181, should we put the .181 fastboot file into Matt's utility for future use?

I believe Mattlgroff made a new utility (1.6) that has .181 files natively.

make it 8... I'm booted! ;) .85 wouldn't go through but .84 did.. I'll look into an idea I have for regaining root tomorrow.. oh yeah... just so you know. the issue I was having the entire time was that my SDCard needed to be formatted! Believe it or not. Same files, same process, formatted SDCard... whalah! and Good Night!!

Glad to hear you're up and running. Sounds like you had quite the battle on your hands

Just found out matt's 1.6 was missing two packages for .181.
Until Matt fixes that it'll probably be best to just modify 1.51 with the .181 fastboot files. It'll work just the same

Okay, it took twice through like the original post said. I am back to .85. It would not let me go to .85. I am unbricked. And back to my 3300 MAH battery.

huzzah!

10/10 unique confirmations!

If you've been waiting for this to be confirmed then here it is!

This fix has been confirmed for restoring .84 or .85 from a softbricked phone.
It will only restore your phone back to it's last working rom (that means you can't go from .84 to .85)

All thanks go to KBoss805 and the testers who have confirmed this fix to be working.

This thread ought to be on the front page...just like the one that got us in this spot was. Not bitc$%#g, I love .84, but it is time consuming to find this "fix" and it looks like a life saver for a lot of bricked razr owners.

Why can't you just use the .85 update after you .181 the system, so then all bricked users will actually be at the latest ICS release?

I don't understand all the tech reasons but it has been tried and it does not work.

I'm gonna attempt it again tonight. But I can tell you after 5 failed attempts at flashing .85 I put the update for .84 on my sdcard... then flashed. It won't through completely on the first attempt.. and booted. Why? I'm not 100% sure yet because it shouldn't matter.
