Why can't you just use the .85 update after you .181 the system, so then all bricked users will actually be at the latest ICS release?

X

I don't understand all the tech reasons but it has been tried and it does not work.

It's due to that pesky bootloader not letting you go back. So, you can fix your phone with this method if you are soft-bricked with either of the 84/85 leaks but there isn't a way to manipulate the bootloader to flash back to the GB releases. Once the official ICS OTA comes out, I don't think there will be as many people wanting to flash back to GB.
Run for your health, run for the rush, run for charity. Sign up for a race near you, you can do it!

Yeah, not sure why anyone want to go back to GB, unless there is a ROM that they can't live without.

People want to have the ability to fastboot back for 2 main reasons.
  • So they can satisfy their crackflashing and continue for flash roms and things the like.
  • So that they are already prepared for when the "Official" ICS OTA is pushed by big red instead of scrambling around afterwards.

I was failing on assert-fail boot: then a bunch of other info.. lol. To me it looked as if it was comparing md5 of the boot.img

I'm gonna attempt it again tonight. But I can tell you after 5 failed attempts at flashing .85 I put the update for .84 on my sdcard... then flashed. It won't through completely on the first attempt.. and booted. Why? I'm not 100% sure yet because it shouldn't matter.

So .84 can brute force .181 back, then .84 back up...
.85 can brute force .181 back, and then only .84 up...

So there is a difference between the .84 and .85 bootloaders?

Sorry for the little pesky things, but stuff like this means a lot to me when figuring out how these mototards work. As if it was on purpose this whole fiasco happened, because two versions, released so close apart, fairly the same, with different bootloaders seems to be an attack of the crackflasher.

Just my opinion...

This thread ought to be on the front page...just like the one that got us in this spot was. Not bitc$%#g, I love .84, but it is time consuming to find this "fix" and it looks like a life saver for a lot of bricked razr owners.

How do you go about getting it on the front Page?

Can someone post a list of the failed imgs that did not get fastbooted back when someone tries to .181 a .85 or .84 system?

Thanks

I would like to personally thank all the members here that have helped out each other with getting their phones working again. Its a amazing site to see something like this during this time when others are so concentrated on pointing fingers and placing blame. The people in this thread have shown some serious teamwork and motivation to get things up again. Your efforts in assisting the members and Droidrzr.com is very commendable and I am sure that every other member, mod, or admin would agree. You have made me proud to be part of the site and community. Keep up the great work and I will continue to try to get the word out about all this awesomeness.

I understand what you're saying but from what I understand there will be no going back to GB now...we'll have to wait for the ICS fastboot files to get back on the path. Once we installed .84 or .85 going back to GB was no longer an option because of the different bootloader.

Just wanted to let you guys know that Mattlgroff has made a new utility 1.6 that he claims to work with this method.
I have modified the instructions to use matt's utility just because it's a lot easier and I trust his claims.

If matt's 1.6 utility does not work the I suggest you use kboss' previous instruction to use matt's 1.51 utility and place the extracted .181 files into the files folder of matt's utility. When you do this you will be replacing the native .173 fastboot files with .181 fastboot files.

Another note:
This method will ONLY restore you to your previously flashed rom leak.
You CANNOT go from a bricked .84 to functional .85 OR a bricked .85 to functional .84 as far as we know.

You can't fastboot either one and there is no method to root either one. Only to keep root from .181

Okay, sounds good so far...

As I am in a still worse situation, I would like to post here first.

I have run out of battery and everything I can enter now, is fastboot mode, what means, I turn the phone on/reboot it and everything I see is fastboot mode...
Well, that's bad, but I have just ordered a factory cable, which will arrive in about 4 weeks...

I would like to see what you think: Is it worth waiting the 4 weeks for the cable or should I return it to Moto? // Has anyone of you made similar experiences (bricked device, which lets you only enter fastboot, neither recovery, nor anything else)

try pressing the power button to power it down.

then press and hold (power+vol up+vol down) and see if you can enter into the bootloader menu again.
If you can see the full menu then plug in your charger (wall outlets only, it doesn't work through a computer)
Then scroll down to the SBF option and select it.
You phone should power down and start charging.
Give it a couple hours and see if you have enough battery to fastboot

Let me see if I have this right.
I’ve been running the 84 leak since it came out, like three weeks.
When I flashed 85 along came the 85 bootloader that will not let us back.
Repaired phone with the tricks posted in this thread. So now I’m running 84 with the 85 bootloader that has us stuck without root but atleast our phones work…….
Or was 84 never flash able back?

Look at my post that is 2 or 3 posts above yours. .84 could never fastboot back.

It is NOT possible to charge it, because of the boot error. I have somehow managed to screw up the software completely so that nothing works anymore, neither charging, nor entering the recovery... will have to return it...

holding PWR+Vol DWN+Vol UP brings up a menu, correct? Plug your phone in after having that up & navigate to BP Tools. It should charge after you select that.
