Hello all,

A little bit of a problem here. I have a Motorola Droid Razr M, unlocked bootloader + rooted of course. I installed the Eclipse ROM found here on the forums using TWRP installed via the Droid Razr M Utility also found here. Now my phone is stuck at the boot logo for Eclipse and is pretty much useless. I'm debating on what I should do. Should I RSD it? If I do I will be able to install a custom ROM again. Should I use TWRP or CWM? I also need help choosing a ROM to flash. I liked Eclipse but it isn't seeming to work. I want a ROM that is AOSP/Vanilla Android as much as possible and has support in the framework for Emojis system-wide. The Emojis are really important to me ^_^

To clarify,

  • I need to know if I should RSD or not
  • I need to know which recovery to use (SafeStrap, CWM, TWRP)
  • I need help choosing a ROM to flash (preferably stable and AOSP/Vanilla Android)
  • I want the ROM to support color Emojis like iOS if possible (heard it can be done in the framework)

If someone can show me how to edit the framework myself, I'd be glad to give it a try.

This situation is urgent because I'm 15 and my mother will KILL me if my phone isn't working >.<

Thanks in advance.

As far as rsd (or Matt's utility) yes you can run it, go back to stock , unlock, recovery , etc etc.... then you can flash ROMs again.....
As far as the emoji support.... I'm not sure on that, someone smarter than I should be able to give you some insight.... :)

Thanks I figured as much. I'll go back to stock and get ready to flash again. By any chance do you know which recovery I should use? TWRP seems to have failed me with Eclipse. Should I use SafeStrap or CWM?

As far as Emoji support, it's possible but I need a developer to take on the project. I'd do it myself if I could get the right resources.

Since you can unlock I would not use safestrap as it is primarily for locked boot loaders.... since twrp is not playing nice with you.... I guess go with cwm LOL :)

Alright thanks. I guess my final question for you would be, what ROM should I go with? I want an AOSP/Vanilla Android ROM for my Razr M.

I don't know too much about the M ROMs but I hear really good things about DeadRage...... :) but I would head over to the ROM section and browse thru the available ROMs for the M .... :) see which one is the best for you.....;)

Try orion if you want aosp and remember CWM has no touch screen support its controlled by the volume rockers and pwr buttons I personally don't like it TWRP is much easier

+1 to TWRP over CWM.

also, if you want a plain vanilla ROM (stock-looking), there is a clean ROM on XDA that is debloated.  also, I think Tim posted a similar stock 4.1.2 ROM here.

all of which can be flashed via TWRP.

I don't think your issue is the recovery, probably just the way you installed Eclipse.

I don't think the Eclipse posted on this forum is up-to-date.  If you want to run Eclipse, look for Nitro's website, ElementalXDesigns and run EclipseV5.  It is AOSP based, but not vanilla.  If you want vanilla AOSP, run Skrillax's or DHacker's CM10.1. Also, if you decide to RSD back to stock, make sure the first thing you do after loading a custom recovery is make a backup.  That way, if you get a boot loop or non-boot, you can easily boot back into recovery and restore your backup.  This will eliminate having to fastboot back to stock.

I'll take note of that :) I decided to go with Skrilax's CM10.1 because I was really digging for a ROM with AOSP features so I could have good Emoji support. CM10.1's messaging app has full support for Emojis & the ROM itself already comes with the font that supports Emoji. I also found a flashable zip for an "Android 4.2 Emoji Keyboard" which works just like the iPhone's  :D

I have the RAZR m and I'm running the Pacman 23.0 July 9th update by BKJolly it is completely stable as far as recovery once u unlock the boot loader u can't use safe strap nor would u want to. Just out of stability I run CWM. The be kernel comes with that ROM as well. I originally tried pacman for the customization. It has great options for customizing. I provided you with a link to the developer site that bkjolly posts the updates to and where you can download the rom and a link to the site that gives u instructions to flash the ROM and the different features it has

Not sure how you resolved the boot loop you encountered. I've had several. All I do is hold vol-vol+power until it shuts down. Then I hold vol+vol-power until the menu with the option list comes up. Not sure what its called and scroll to recovery hit vol+ to select and it puts me back into twrp .
