I noticed that from using safestrap, that deleting/wiping the preinstall gave me a error when trying to install. 209. Would it be easily able to just rename the preinstall folder as a way of backing it up? Afterwards it could make its own folder to do what it needs to make a dual boot system?

Not complaining by any means. Just trying to suck in information, and compare how things are different from the way you can do things in a pc vs mobile phone application.

Thanks for answering a newbies quetoin

I know safe strap wipes your preinstall folder, and installs your chosen rom in that folder so you can dual boot between your stock rom, and the custom rom. I've never delt with bootstrap.

The main difference as pointed out is that safestrap only installs the custom ROM files in the preinstall folder. With bootstrap the custom ROM overwrites the stock files.

With SS, it is far less likely (almost impossible) to completely brick your device because everytime you reboot your phone the SS menu pops up to allow you to go into recovery. With BS if you mess up you can easily brick and you could end up having to start all over by flashing the stock fast boot files.

As for the original question by the op, SS needs the preinstall folder. I do not believe it will create it if it is not there. As you mentioned, any official moto but ota will fail the install because the preinstall folder had been changed. If you have SS installed and you want to update with an ota, a fastboot back is required. However, to avoid having to do this, here is what I do. I have a folder on my sdcard labeled "my stuff", and I placed a copy of the preinstall folder there so that when an ota comes out, I simple remove SS and then put the preinstall folder back the way it should be, making sure permissions are correct, and the ota passes all checks and installs just fine without having to fastboot.

You can take a backup before you toggle safe system, then restore it for an unmodified preinstall. Not sure if you can rename the preinstall folder.
Edit: ninja'd... nevermind :)

You should be able to just open boot strap, hit uninstall recovery, then uninstall the app. Download and install safe strAP, open it and hit install recovery.

Its been a while since I switched but that worked for me.

If you have problems removing bootstrap,
1. uninstall the .apk
2. remove /system/bin/hijack
3. remove /system/bin/logwrapper
4. rename /system/bin/logwrapper.bin to logwrapper (remove the .bin)
