I think this is right. It comes from the slang term OG meaning "Original Gangster." It just means the first, old school Droid.
I would think it would be 1G for 1st Generation rather than OG for Original Generation.

Lol the "OG Droid" is called the Droid 1 or just the Droid and people refer to it as the OG Droid or Droid OG because it is the OriGinal droid

I'm sorry to chime in on this, but original gangster is a term used as exactly as it sounds. Original. A founder/ co-founder or someone who has enough stripes to call shots. Has nothing to do with death of members. You have original gangster, big gangster and baby gangster. OG, Big G and Baby G. My life was made when they used "OG" on Breaking Bad. Referring to a 70 year old drug lord. Now that's Original Gangsta.
