ok installed drivers and did option 1 and it went smooth...i then went into recovery on my phone, wiped data/cache partition and went to install the ics file but when it gets to verifying the installation it comes up with this:

installing update...
assert failed: mount("ext3', "mtd", "system", "/system")
E:error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(status 7)
installation aborted

did i do something wrong?

Hello all,

I've tried to load the 1.7 utility onto my pc. I unzipped it, and everytime I try to open it I get the initial load where it says hit any key to continue. I hit a key and everything disappears. Any hints?

After I unzipped, I see 3 things in the folder. Drivers, files and Razr utilities batch files.

Oh man, After all day of fighting going from Stock non ICS non root, I had to do the below, I really hope it helps someone
First name that file to update.zip, put on root on your SD card not the phone, I put it on both. Remeber SHOW File Details, not update.zip.zip or just update, "Update.zip"!
1. Install drivers (I assume you unziped Only the 1.7 utility)
2. Rename and install/copy update.zip on "Your" SD not the phones but external, Copy to both is what I did
3. debug usb mode, run "ADMIN" File .bat from 1.7 utility, Follow instuctions #1 first and kept getting e:data error (7) etc..
4. After AP Fastboot "Utility Intructions", if you hold -+ vol together go to recover, and hit up vol for enter, Wipe the phone, clear, reboot
5. Go into "AP Fastboot" run Option 2 from Util, Repeat step 4 when Utility says so
6. phone will freeze on power off, DONT PANNIC, Hold VOL +/- and Power watch flicker
7. Power and reboot into Recover as explained in step 4 repeat it, doing wipe. Dont reboot yet
8. Install Update.zip from external card, let it run till finished about 10 min, reboot and enjoy!!

Hope this is clear enough and helps someone else.. :) This is what worked for me.. If someone can see mistake, please feel free to fix it, I apologize I was in a rush.

Some maybe confused here, power and down will get you into AP Fastboot, the Volume up and down will get you into a menu for recovery/AP Fastboot, etc etc.. Up key on not sure but i think recovery.. before hitting power of course...

Definitely needs a data wipe... and a reboot at that as well.

It shows userdata is your problem right on there x_X

i have this assert failed with the userdata as well.

i've wiped data / cache and rebooted. reran Option 1. still getting the userdata Assert Failed error.

First I wanna say thanks for all the work you put into this phone and forum. Without all the developers here I would have no clue how to do any of this. I have a dumb question this works perfectly for me accept it doesn't show the selections in the beginning it says the= too powerful to fall into the wrong hands
Please make a selection or hit enter to exit: like I said it works fine from here but is there a way to get the selections to show up? I'm sure I messed something up just not sure. Thanks

Yeah I knew I was messed up, run as Admin duh!

This is where I had to use Option 2, then reboot, you will see a green guy with a loader, screen goes black, dont pannic, hold vol -+ and power, screen will flash turn on and boot into recovery, reset/data Note: I didn't lose anything, don't reboot yet, do the update.zip and wait 10 min and when (its) done, reboot and finished, all my stuff was found, its working good. If anyone has 4g issues, apply "motorola patch Restore Connectivity Settings - Motorola droid Razr"

This is where old school comes in, select option 1 or 2 etc Example: #1 on Numlock pad, from your keyboard, then you must hit the enter key on the keyboard.. cheers!

Thank you Matt! Everything worked out perfectly. Just one last question for the future:

If I ever want to reinstall it again for whatever reason, do I need to start from option 2 and reflash? Or just reflash it like custom roms do.

Best Regards.

Put the 211 update on the SD card.
Run Option 1.
Reboot into Recovery and install the 211 update.
????
Profit.

Same for .206? I don't want to F anything up.

Can someone post step by step instructions? The OP isn't clear, at least to me. I'm not feel well today either so that's not helping lol.

In chat they found out that wiping and retrying 4-8 times gets the job done.

Hey, quick question: I have installed the ics update through gb recovery and everything has gone through just fine except I am at the part that says: "patching boot image" and it has been sitting there for a while. Is this normal?

I ran into the same last night flashing to 181 from .75. What ended up working for me was using RSD 5.7 to flash 181. None of the razr utils worked for me (up to 1.6)

Hi, I'm currently on the .79 leak (used utility 1.6 to get there and to root). To get onto .211 (which I assume puts me on the OTA update path), can I use option 2, then patch the file from recovery?

(I currently have safestrap installed... do I need to remove it to get into moto recovery to flash the file?)

Or, do I need to revert to .181 which I can do from utility 1.6...

Finally got 1.7 Utilities to work, Option #1 executed, booted into AP wipe data and cache X2 times, install 211 from SD...wait...wait...wait. Reboots! YEA!

But my issue is now that even though ICS is running, my home button does not launch the home screen, yes the hardware is OK, tactile feedback indicates that the OS is receiving the input but the home, and search buttons do not activate any functions. Back button works. Is anyone seeing this? Any ideas??

Thanks

well batman thank you i got ICS up and running and all looks ok BUT idk if others are having these problems but this is what im experiencing:

when first rebooted a sign popped up and said something in the lines of gapps shut down or something like that so i then restarted the phone

when booted up again all went perfect until i pressed the HOME button...for some reason the home button doesnt want to work..it still vibrates after pressing it but does not take me home...menu button and back button work perfect but home button and search button are not working at all...

i then pushed the power button to make phone go to sleep when pushing power button again the phone DID NOT go to lock screen it simply just turned the phone back on..i even waited for 2-3 minutes and still the phone didnt go into lock screen.

other than these problems everything looks good..is anyone else having these problems? if so how did you fix it? thanks in advance
