The freedom to buy your toys where and how you want takes yet another hit as Samsung starts restricting the SIM to the region of purchase. Apparently this doesn't apply to devices already delivered, but if you get anything new, be prepared to use it where you buy it. It looks like the two geographic areas at this time are Europe and the Americas.

This won't be too much of a problem for the tech savvy, but the globetrotting general public better start counting on some hefty roaming charges.

I read one article that mentioned that the Asian version is open. Definitely need to pay attention if you travel a lot and want to consider this device.

Have a look at this... I recommend the video, it is not a great example but a ChainFire is working on a project called RegionLock which specifically targets this threat that Samsung put together on the Note 3, and it also sounds like threat that Samsung created may possibly aim to go backwards towards past purchases, not sure how that would work. But none-the-less that doesn't sound good.
