Obviously I take no credit for making this recovery or the app. All credit for safestrap goes to Hashcode for his amazing work!

Since RomBot is always down these days, here's a mirror for safestrap that will not be "down."

Setting up safestrap: (only if you're just now installing safestrap, if you already have it installed jump to the "install instructions" section).
Download ROM
Download gapps package
Place ROM and gapps package on external or internal sdcard
Install the Safestrap apk
Open the apk and install the recovery
Reboot, then press the Menu button on your phone to boot into the recovery
Select Backup/Restore and make a backup of your current system
Now in recovery, select "safe boot menu"
Now select "Toggle Safe System"
Now select "Yes-Enable Safe System"
Wait for it to do its thing.
Back out to the main menu of the recovery
Select "mounts and storage"
Select "format /system"
Wait
Select "wipe data/factory reset"
Select "wipe cache partition"
Select "advanced"
Select "wipe dalvik cache"

Install Instructions:
Reboot into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cache
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot
PROFIT!

OH!! And never try to boot into recovery with the device plugged in, you will get nothing but a black screen.

Also, do NOT restore Device ID with Titanium Backup.

Nice, but I'd add "Backup non-safe system" before swapping to safe system. You never know what might happen.;)

Just installed Arctic using these steps. Thanks hicks!
I can continue to use the non safe system as long as I want without any issues right? I noticed that it says the Device ID is different in TiBu, probably due to the format. Should I restore the old Device ID or will it not be a problem to leave it as it is? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it asks you when you enable safe side if you want to include your non safe side in the backup, doesn't it?

Thanks for the instructions. I'm sure it'll help a lot.

Hey guys. I just updated to ics 4.04 from the verizon update. I rooted successfully and have downloaded safestrap. I hit the install recovery button but the recovery state says not installed and when I turn my phone and turn it back on it does not give me the option to boot into recovery by pressing the menu button. I have tried unstalling and reinstalling with no differnent results. What do you guys suggest? I'm not sure what I'm missing. I was rooted on GB and was using using safestrap then. Thanks in advance! :)

Speaking of this, is there anything special a person needs to do to move from bootstrap to safestrap? I am thinking about doing it and want to make sure I don't screw something up.

Thanks,

So, just to be sure, while on the Safe System side of things, if I wipe data, format system, etc, it has no effect to my Unsafe Side? I want to be sure, before I do it, so that I don't make a mistake I will regret...

When you enable safe system it creates a backup of your non-safe side for you. And as you toggle back and forth it will restore everything as you left it.

So as long as i toggle safe on, i can do whatever i want with no risk to unsafe? Just verifying before i use the scary format button...

I had this issue too. Download and install Busybox from Play and rerun the recovery install.

Just to be clear here, the only thing backed up when swapping non-safe > safe or safe > non-safe is your data. The systems are only backed up thru a manual backup.
