Honestly, I will personally pledge $500 if someone finds a root method for this device on this version BEFORE the next update.   I would love to see an end to the "OMGZ Ponies! I flashed the update and now I lost root?" threads.....

My wife got me a RAZR HD Maxx for Christmas and I hate to see development stalled on it. Fortunately the original owner never took the OTA of doom. It came rooted and I unlocked it. I want others to continue to enjoy this device. I'm a poor piece of crap this time of year but I'll throw in $5 toward keeping this device alive!

Stupid idea I'm not a programmer but what if you could somehow put the root into an update or is that even realistic just asking

The thing about creating a update for gaining Root access is that Motorola Software is signed a specific way that the recovery will only allow that to pass the update through with that signature. Also one must be able to crack that code along with the bootloader to even think about creating a update that will do this. Even SPF files are signed a specific way for this, I asked that to Sam a while back for the Bionic. So the only way to do this is by being creative. I would try to, but I don't want to loose what I already have, Unlocked and Rooted. :D  ;)

The nice think about being unlocked tho...... As far as we know (as of yet) .... You won't lose that, therefore; you will not lose root...:)...... (But.....you already knew that LOL )

I am by far no programmer at all, but couldn't there be a way to figure out the algorithm that Motorola uses to unlock the boot loader on dev editions and just create the right code?  Then just do as you would do if you had a dev edition and unlock. Or is that not possible on a non dev edition?

I'm sure if it was that easy someone would have done it... It's one of those things like if you put the top 12 crypto guys in a room with all of Google's servers it would take them 146 years to figure out Moto's signature encryption...

Been thru this time and time again since the beginning of Android. We all complain about Verizon and Motorola but we do the same thing to ourselves, nobody aka developers keep a phone for longer than six months than abandon the old phone for the next one. Everybody is entitled get whatever phone they want after all this is a free country but I have heard the same story with many different phones just understand your new phone is only new till the next round of phones come along. If you want to keep your phone for the two years Verizon wants you to than just understand the final year is going to be void of developer support and I'm being generous in saying a year.

Off topic comments removed. While insights and opinions are always helpful in troubleshooting, not really necessary in a root bounty thread
