I had my Razr M stolen, and so I filled out a police report.  The police asked me for the serial number (not IMEI or MEID), the S/N.  I bought this phone from e-bay, so I don't have the box with the S/N number.  Is there a way to find it - especially given that this phone could not be taken apart easily to find it on the back next to the battery?

thanks!

The imei should be good enough ....AFAIK.... ALL information regarding the phone is "tied" to the imei...... But I would contact VZW..... They should have that info as well...:)

that's what I told the police, but he's insistent on it being the S/N number.

You should be able to get it from whoever the device was activated on with the IMEI. Let them know you need it for รค theft investigation. There are some data base services out there but they are hit and miss plus you wouldn't want to do that with a device that is good just in case.

Do you have any screenshots of Settings>About>phone status? S/N is the last item. Or do you think maybe its somewhere on your PC in a file or something like that? A log from ADB or flashing.....?

all good ideas, but no dice.  I'll try contacting verizon tomorrow and see what they say.  afterall, I think the police would need to go through verizon anyway to get the phone's last GPS location.

Actually.....You should have already contacted VZW........ They could have "blacklisted " the imei so it cannot be activated ....and yes, they can give you all the information about your phone .....

i already did, VZW cannot tell me the GPS location of the phone's last use.  Only the police can obtain that information from them (according to VZW).  They already blacklisted it.  However, I'm sure the theif has it turned off and sold it for parts....
