I just wish there was a way I could go back down to ICS and unlock it then update back to JB and have a recovery and everything ):

Let me clear this up for the millionth time.  You can stop asking every time a new update comes out if it can be unlocked.  It can't.  And won't.  Dan's unlock exploit took advantage of a bug in the trusted zone that allowed the secure code that blows the eFuse to unlock the bootloader to be run.  That bug was fixed in the very next version of the trusted zone.  Dan looked at it and determined there isn't anymore exploitable code in the trusted zone.  So you can wish and hope and pray and ask all you want, but, the answer is that it's not going to happen.  Everyone that even had a chance at making it happen have moved on to the new generation of phones.  When kitkat comes out in a few months, don't bother asking if it can be unlocked.  It won't be able to be.  It very well probably won't have a root exploit for it, either, but, that won't stop people from taking it, stating that they lost root, and pleading for a new root exploit.  People don't want to take the time to read ahead of time.  They just expect someone to come and fix it for them after the fact.  That won't work with kitkat.

Okay so after reading through these threads from what I gather, 9.30.1 is the same as 9.18.94. There is now a root for 9.30.1 BUT this method will not work for 9.18.94 is this correct? If so why does it work on one but not the other. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am just trying to understand the reason for breaking up the two updates into different numbers but being the same update. Does this mean there could be a root method for 9.18.94 using a similar method to 9.30.1?

Thank you in advance!

The version number shows up different depending on if you were rooted when you installed it or not.  ;)  It's *EXACTLY* the same.  You're not going to find a separate OTA update for one vs the other.  You're not going to find a separate FXZ for one vs the other.  That's because they are ONE update.

I never accept OTAs, I dont get them anymore, froze the updater, but I unlocked when I read about it. And I just got a RAZR M off Ebay cheap, but its a 98.18.78 and its trying to update to 98.18.94 so I need to root it and freeze the updater or whatever. But isnt it too late for unlocking? Which update was the offender here anyway?

It's just sad the device can't be unlocked =\

Just bought this phone and, even if it's great that it will get KK, kinda sad that it'll be stuck there.

Well, at least mine.

Spent 5 months saying no to the update, with plans on unlocking... never got around to it and then my BF inadvertently accepted the update thinking it was a good thing. A week later my phone had an accident... sadly, the replacement already had the update *sigh* At least I'm rooted now... Thank you all so much for posting this where I could find it.  :)

Wondering if I can disassemble the phone and physically allow the boot-loader XD

@livinginkaos, I got the phone when it first came out... I've been going all this time with out root or bootstrap because I was lazy, when the phone had its accident, I hoped the replacement wouldn't have the update. I hoped wrong... I'm just happy to finally be able to zap all this freaking bloatware. Though I'd be happier if I could run cyanogen...
