I miss the ability to have a solid LED on my RAZR, and I was wondering if anyone has any idea if having a Kexec kernel will allow us (well, apps) to turn the LED on solid?

I would ask hashcode or dhacker myself, but I don't have a twitter (although maybe I should get one, since I've had theirs open in my browser for 3 days straight now lol). If anyone is familiar with this and has an idea, I would appreciate that. Or if someone asked them on their own, that would be great, but they have more important things to be concerned with at the moment anyways.

Thanks to anyone with ideas (and to any devs who stop here. Really appreciate the amazing work done for our phones!)

We are unable to load custom kernels because of the locked bootloader... thanks to Moto and Verizon. I will do some research and find out if this is possible without a custom kernel. I too would like a way to set a solid led notification! Edit: Just looked at a post about them getting that kernel running...

Ya there hasn't been much info out there about this unless you're following dhacker and hashcode on twitter. But it is incredibly exciting, and I'm hopeful that it will open up possibilities for small things like this.

This^^^ Basically, the light turns on solid, and doesn't turn off. I like to have it on solid so I can glance at my phone quicker, instead of glancing and waiting a second or two. It seems silly, but when you get used to it being that way, it is very convenient. If you have custom colors for apps set (like CM7 could do) it is incredibly useful (double so if it rotates through them all instead of showing the most recent one).

I don't think that's a kernel level request. I'm sure there's ways to do that without a custom kernel

That's what I would have thought, but I have been unable to find any way to do it. I did that on my old Droid2, so it's not like it's a Motorola thing. But it seems that the kernel is the only option left (as in, hasn't changed in all my experiments).

Who knows? It would be nice if that capability was a side-effect from the custom kernels though.

I looked into this thinking Tasker should be able to solve your problem. No dice. It only allows flashing led and seems that no matter the set duration, it's always the same. Must be some background setting or control. It also only allows led when the screen is off. I'll keep at it and see what I can find.

I've tried the various texting apps and also lightflow, without any success. It is one of the strangest things I think.

Yes lightflow always worked for me in the past on gingerbread - but has stopped working as well since ICS. Solid LEDs were one of the things that stopped working. Just noticed droidhive.com is now a parked domain...that's no good - man dhacker really must be pissed.
