Hi, Thanks for letting me join the group. I am a business and technology teacher in Maine and kids have been asking more and more questions about writing apps for mobile devices as well as rooting, custom roms and darker subjects like this. I rooted my Razr Maxx a month ago then got trapped last night by the CMW Recovery issue that bricks your device. All back to good with Matt's Droid Razr Utility 1.8.2. Going to root again and try again. Looking forward to the learning experience. Might see you around in the chat rooms while I continue my knowledge quest. Regards, Bruce

If you are on the XT912 Razr, don't install CWM, because you can't.  You cannot use a custom recovery on a locked bootloader device.  Your option is to use SafeStrap which is a sudo recovery.

Welcome aboard BTW !

That is the latest safestrap for the XT912...AKA... RAZR...AKA spyder.

Download it... install it like any third party app...open the app... install recovery...reboot...when you get past the red moto logo you will see a splash screen...hit the menu button on your phone to enter recovery...then select a slot to create(boot options)...slot one works for most everything...you can make a back up of stock at this point if you'd like (probably should)... after that activate the slot you created...NOT the stock slot!...and follow the instructions given from whichever ROM you have downloaded on your phone.

Happy flashing!! \m/

Thanks Berzerk!  I did as suggested just now.  Not sure if I hit the right "menu" button.  It is kind of stuck on a screen that is all black except the bottom three buttons and the "updating partition details...." words above it.  I didn't notice anything that said menu, so I hit the non-descript button in the middle at the bottom.  I'll wait awhile longer and then force a restart.  Then I'll go read more about Safestrap 3.65.

Thanks.  It has been fun learning about these options and making things work.  I thought about installing CWM again just to recover the backups I made, but I think I'll just skip that.  I'm back up and running, rooted again, Safestrap 3.65.  After flashing the stock rom with Razr Blade, I noticed I'm not getting any sound using certain apps.  Pandora and Youtube to be exact.  Ever heard of this happening?  Maybe a different Rom will restore sound for these apps.

Hi Bruce,

Welcome to the site! Secondly, LOL at "darker subjects". I can't decide if I automatically fall back us hacker types, or something that should be taught at Hogwarts in "Defense of the Dark Arts" course!  :p
