Normally I don't rush into applying Cheesecake updates, especially now after the fiasco with the Bionics. But, based on the fact that webtop & the LTE radio are upgraded, & we're updated to 2.3.6, it seems to me like it would be worthwhile to install this update? What new bloat is added with this update?

Does anyone know if it is possible to go directly from .748 to .173 if everything is stock & all bloat is in tact? I have a backup of complete stock .748, and would rather start there than a fastboot all the way back to .744, if it's possible. Thanks so much, any info is much appreciated!

I'm wondering the same

So far I've noticed data is more stable, 3G to 4G transition, is smoother. Faster response time. And battery seems to be as good if not better then before.

+1
Same experience here.

I wanted to try using Zergrush Exploit after applying this update. It doesn't work, you must use OTA root-keeper or you will NOT have root after the upgrade.

Flashed this update as soon as it posted here last night (early this morning). Loving the new chnages but I don't really pay attention to battery stats and things like that so for me it is just about the actual UI and general performance. The biggest adavntage for me with this update is that motocast has been updated and the pics on your phone can upload directly to your PC. Set it to auto uplaod on wifi and after you take a pic, motocast will sync your new pics to your desktop as soon as you get on wifi.

I wanted to try using Zergrush Exploit after applying this update. It doesn't work, you must use OTA root-keeper or you will NOT have root after the upgrade.

I concur with these findings, I installed the update while still rooted and it went thru with no issues other than it wasn't rooted after and the zerg root would not work.

Before I flashed back to stock using RSD I noticed some positive benefits, I'm in a strong 4G lte area and up/dwn load speeds increased not by much but enough to notice, interesting new emergency warning had a setting for presidential warnings and being exempt. Some of the bloat previously installed is no longer like Kindle and a couple other things, didn't write them down. I'm back on the 748 and am going to get OTA root keeper so I can hopefully get root back and then reapply the new update, oh and I have Go Weather and before when I had it on the window with the video background and clicked back to desktop it sorta flickered back but with the update it did not blink transition it just snapped back instantly as if all lag were gone, I also tested a couple games and they were smooth, netflix worked great, all in all I saw improvement even tho it was just a short time. All apps and settings remained intact thru out the entire process from update to flash back to stock and then to the OTA which went right thru. No information or settings were changed at all, I'm stoked!!!!

Ok well seems I was wrong about the Kindle thing as it's still there, the only way you can keep root is to get that OTA Rootkeeper from the market. Anyway I'm running the .173 and rooted. B)

The camera settings are now colorized and the panorama mode produces a much better pic.

Thanks to arcanexvi you can now downgrade to .748 without using RSD Lite 5.6 and fastboot files.

Thank you, and not a problem.

This update is really nice, everything seems a lot better. I've already debloated and working to get my system completely how I had it. Much love to the guys that found this update too!

Well that was a productive day. Lets see what tomorrow brings. 2.3.7? 4.0.3? Who knows.

I have been messing around with android forever the the instructions and links are missleading/ veague/ incomplete..... I have Tried to flash the new update and used every tool plus downloaded every file possiblke and it just does not work! Could someone post something useful that actually works how they say it does... I don't speak veague so I don't get what I am "doing wrong" when attempting to install! I am on stock updated ota (with root and all bloatware intact) and for some reason it just wont install the unofficial update no matter how I try to do it...

Disable safe strap/bootstrap
install voodoo ota rootkeeper and protect su with it
put the update file on your external SD card
Turn off your phone
Hold all 3 buttons and boot into recovery
Select update file
Run voodoo and restore su.
Reenable safe strap

Don't install this with safe strap/cwm. You must install via stock recovery.

WEll that was a flop... Now after running the update (and everything looks to have gone well) when I start up and look in system information stuff it says it is still at 2.3.5 (6.11.748.xt912.verizon.en.us) so now what? lol

Not a flop. You flashed the wrong zip. Use the Download link for the update, not the DOWNGRADE!

Make sure you wipe data if the OTA isn't taking from .744 to .748. Make sure to use OTA rootkeeper after wipe though if you want to keep root.

I guess I am wondering if and or when this will be officially released or at least when the next official release will be let loose? This update is tempting but I am trying to be a good boy with this phone.

Probably not this exact version. There are some FC errors that Moto wouldn't release in an official OTA, but they are hard to find. Search button in App Drawer FC's the App Drawer for example. I am personally hoping it is a stepping stone to ICS and won't be an actual update, but we shall see how Moto plays it out. The 6.12.173 is on most of their dev servers and may be ready for a soak test soon enough.

Matt, just to confirm SafeStrap alters the preinstall correct ? So in order to stay stock and on the path after 744-748-173 you cannot install SafeStrap again or you will have to start from the bottom again and upgrade, rather than just downgrading to 748 from 173. Tried to go to 173 from 748 which is stock with the exception of having uninstalled SafeStrap prior to the173 update attempt and it fails the check. Whats the story and is there a work around? Thanks

Note: back to 748 stock nonsafe, 748 Razrx v1.1 safe

This will eventually get a public release right? As in official release? If that is the case, it will be incorporated into a room eventually right?

It might not, we may go directly to ICS from 748 or 173 might not go official OTA and another build will before ICS hits. IMO
