Use Root explorer to goto the system/media folder. Mount r/w. Rename the existing bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.bak (This is so you can undo it later it you want... else-wise delete. Paste the new file here and set permissions to same.

What should permissions be. I set them the way it says to in the boot animation forum yet I don't get the proper boot. Still getting the rom boot I had.

look and see if you have a data/local/bootanimation.zip, if so, rename to .bak or delete.
This file will run if there instead of the one in the media folder mentioned above.

Extract the file you will get the boot ani and sound file.

I moved the files to the system>media folder and the sound worked. I am working now on making it a little louder.

Here is a copy of the sound file thats a little louder. Its located in teh Droid M folder.
