You plan on staying on ICS? I would consider the security concerns if doing so. Best advice to give you is to research. There are a few threads on here that discuss how to root ICS in the xt912 development seciton.

I tend to shy away from just posting links on something that's been around a while. The purpose is to learn. There are many mods that one can do that can have negative outcomes if the person is not aware of the process.

well no i dont plan to stay on ICS. Ive just been searching around for awhile on how to just root the phone and switch over to jellybean or maybe kitkat but im not sure if i can make that big of a jump update. ive been looking around on some threads and i thought i found a way to do it through a utility that was by maxx but his updated version doesnt support ICS.

If you want to upgrade your xt912 to jellybean (4.1.2).... The current (razr xt(912) utility WILL upgrade you just fine..... And then you can still root etc.......

well im kinda new to doing these processes and im willing to learn how to do them but i never seem to find a good website that will teach me. or if someone will walk me through step by step id be happy be that. alot of the research ive done seems easy enough but i also see where if you dont know what your doing it can brick your phone or cause other problems
