Please help! I updated my Verizon razr maxx hd to kitkat this morning not knowing there were a lot of issues with the new update. Is there anyway to uninstall this update and go back to JB? I have no experience with rooting or with bootloader and haven't had much luck finding specific information on this situation. I've never rooted this phone or done anything to it and it is still locked. Id love to get rid of some of the factory loaded apps but much more concerned about going back to JB. I very rarely had any issues at all with that platform. I noticed when I first went to the JB update, the Navigation app icon disappeared and can only get navigation through maps, but I don't think its the same app as previous. Not sure what info is needed. I have build # KDA20.62-10  system version 182.46.10.XT926 and the 32gb ROM and have the 4.4.2 version installed. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure there are many others in the same boat with this flawed update.

If your boot loader is locked, I'm pretty sure you can't go back. That ability was locked up 2 OTAs ago, and I don't think it has changed.

Nope. Can't be done on a locked device.

This is why research and patience are key before taking any OTA, whether you're phone is locked or unlocked. It's like what Mrs. Gump used to say, taking an OTA on your phone "is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get!"

As mentioned, not possible to downgrade. Any attempt to do so will brick the device to the point where you will then need to wait for the new FXZ to be released just so you can get back to where you are now.  There won't likely be a new root exploit unless you get lucky like you guys did on 9.30.1, either.  If by some miracle a root exploit for another 4.4.2 device works then you may get root back at some point, but, that's not guaranteed and there's likely no one looking at finding one for these phones.

I've had bad luck with this update. I had no idea it would change so much stuff. It drops calls all the time, fails to load websites, and has really slow performance. Even after hours spent diagnosing with Verizon and Motorola, nothing fixed it. Of course, Motorola will replace the phone for $150, since it just happened to run out of its 12 month warranty 3 months ago. Their software messed up my phone and they want me to pay for it. It sounds like a lot of people are having similar problems. I hope somebody comes up with a way to root back to JB or maybe Motorola will finally realize they f*cked up again and own up to it.

Usually, if things are slow and not working correctly, then that's usually attributable to something was done wrong during the OTA.

Also, it's always good to just wipe the phone clean and start anew when getting an OTA. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It just depends on how much stuff you have loaded. If your memory is almost gone (internal storage), that definitely makes things slow.

Also, wiping dalvik and cache is a good thing to do as well, especially after an OTA like this (going from JB to KK).

I myself have seen improvements with Kit Kat. My phone is running better now than it has in the past under JB. Sometimes it gets laggy, but not like it did under JB. And, if it gets really bad, a reboot cures it quickly.

The only thing Motorola messed up was during the soak and having two different builds (one soak test update for 9.18 versions and another for 9.30 versions). This caused an issue when it was leaked, which is probably why you shouldn't leak soak builds and it's probably why Motorola doesn't want them leaked since it can cause a whole host of support issues for them and they can't track it as easily as they can with a controlled set of testers.

I would suggest going into recovery and wipiing dalvik to see if that fixes things. It usually does.

If that doesn't work, then a FDR (factory data reset) is your next option. If you can backup anything to your external SD card, do it before doing an FDR since it wipes out all your settings as well as any text messages you may have. That definitely works most of the time.

It not, you might have to wait for the FXZ to come out so you can flash back to stock Kit Kat and that should definitely clear up your issues.

If it doesn't at that point, then to me, it's a hardware issue. But, if everything was working before the OTA, then that tells me it's more of an installation issue, such as old cache sitting around, too many apps installed, etc. Again, wipe dalvik cache first. Then, if that doesn't work, do an FDR.

Let us know if any of this helps.

OK - So I cant go back.  Can I load the JB apps I miss if I am able to find them?  I would like to get the old Sype keyboard from JB and Navigation.  I'm using the suggested alternatives but I really want the old ones back if there is a way to get them.
