Thanks for the clear, easy to follow post. Question: when will it become possible to flash stock Kitkat on an unlocked HD as you would flash any other ROM? Will that ever be possible?

Sure.  The FXZ will need to be released and once that happens, this post will get updated to make it even easier.  It'll be possible to flash both locked and unlocked devices with my generated RSD scripts.  Once the FXZ comes out, I suspect roms will follow for unlocked users.

Awesome. What is the time frame for the FXZ? Just wondering if it's worth going through this now if it'll be months before we see it.

I have a rooted only XT926 on 9.18.79, I am stuck can't seem to take the update and can't seem to downgrade, or at least figure it out my own how to. I am using a Mac for a computer system and am new to that, I am a PC dude, but mine died, and I inherited this and its a great machine so I thought I'd try it out, but it's kicking my ass, and i don't have the money replace the PC, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

For the Mac you will need to use the HoM in place of RSD since it is java based. Make sure your java is updated.

To get into recover,
=====================
hold vol + and - along with power button for a few seconds and then let go all of them.
After getting into recovery you will get a red triangle with android laying down.
Press vol + and -
You will then get a menu. Select the option to apply zip from sd card and then proceed
After following that step, there is some set of messages and the phone reboots.
It goes back to recovery and you see the same red triangle.

Now, hold vol - and just press power button once.
You are now in new version of recovery.

Again from this menu, select option to apply zip file and select the "Blur.... .zip."
It will start the installation again after few seconds of qu 1/1 -- Install /sdcard message

After a while, you will find the phone getting almost stuck at "Patching system files.."
It takes over 5 minutes...
Finally you get a menu after installation completes. You have to choose the reboot option.

After reboot, the "bootloader unlocked" warning disappeared for me. So, I am not sure what happened to the bootloader lock.

They changed the bootloader unlock warning. Nothing to worry about as you're still unlocked if you were before the update.

i did everything in the orignal post to a T. I get an error when i try to flash the "universal" script in rsd. It starts out good gets to 8/23 which is systm ext4 and flashes it for a little bit and then just goes back to saying fastboot connected, no fail or pass or anything on rsd. On the bootloader it just says flash failure. Any suggestions? im unlocked, stock recovery.

Check that you're on a USB 2 port, not USB 3, that you're using the original OEM USB cable that came with the phone (yes it matters), and that you have the latest Moto USB drivers (google for it) installed.  Other than that, try a different USB port.

It was my Motorola USB drivers. I updated them and everything went as smooth as you said. I'm now on official ota KK and rooted. Samurai you truly are the man. Thank you.

Good to know that the bootloader is still unlocked and the warning screen has now disappeared.

I am trying to figure out how to use the CWM image file that has been linked in your post. Do we have to use WinImage and extract some zip out of it?

Edit: Mobile data on CDMA (Reliance) has stopped working. This was working before this update.

Also tested with a GSM SIM card (DoCoMo) and data works fine on that (after APN settings were received from the provider automatically).

In addition now I am seeing some message from Moto-pocalypse to update the Superuser binary (su).

Should I select "Install"?

yeah, even under sudo it can't see the script.

the universal script is under HouseOfMoto/FXZ_xt926/UNIVERSAL_XT926.sh

does the .sh need to have the model lower case "i.e.:UNIVERSAL_xt926.sh"?

under windows, it says:

Flashing: UNIVERSAL_xt926.bat

The system cannot find the specified path

Ah, very interesting.  You entered the model as xt926 in one place and XT926 in the other.  So yea, it won't find the scripts if they don't match.  Case is sensitive.  I'll make a note of that in the HoM thread.

welp, turns out it IS case sensitive… it saw the script and allowed me to attempt to flash it on the mac. this is what it shat out:
