Well, I just did a little experiment, and there is a moral to this story. I formatted the data partition, made a backup after formatting, and restored it. I assume the data format factory restored the phone because I rebooted into setup like a fresh flashed phone. I had trouble getting SU to take hold, so I tried flashing in recovery. I still couldn't get root access and I'm not sure why. Well, I restored and we'll see what happens. Maybe there wasn't a moral to this story after all. haha

Ya what's up with having to format data? Think I'm gonna just customize with xposed and not mess with recovery until twrp comes to the rescue. You should be able to just side load SU again while in recovery.
I'm not really sure, but I am pretty positive that the format is what took me to a completely stock, new ROM. I think the SuperSU thing was just a fluke that happened at the same time. I deleted my SU apps and re-downloaded and everything worked fine.
