I read someone was having the same problem and fixed it by unfreezing the yahoo stuff.

That is what rob stunner posted over at xda

I tend to question things I disbelieve are true. Some people cannot handle that. Sorry if you are one of those people.

As long as apps are listed under "downloaded" would they be safe to delete even if they were factory installed or installed by 2.3.6?

I never froze apps before. I just simply removed them and put them back when/if needed. I see TB will do it, but not in the free version. I don't really mind supporting the maker(s) of TB, but is there something that will freeze them for free? If not I will just remove the files.

I installed the 2.3.6 update over the weekend and was curious about which apps it was now ok to freeze using Titanium Backup. I read on some other sites that there were stability issues with apps that were frozen on 2.3.5 after the update, so I went ahead and did some freeze testing. So far my razr seems faster and I haven't noticed any problems (it has only been about 12 hours, though). Let me know if you notice any problems with my list, but I just rooted for the first time about 2 nights ago, so I'm pretty new to this stuff myself.

Here's the list of apps I've frozen so far:
amazon kindle 3.2.0.35
backup assistant plus 1.0
backup assistant+ 1.0
backupassistant + Contacts 2.3.6
backup assistant+ media 1.0
cardock 1.0
email 2.3.6
email accounts 0.9
email authenticator 2.3.6
fixedemail authenticator 2.3.6
flickr authenticator 2.3.6
im 3.0.4.6
im presence 2.3.6
inpocket 2.3.6
lastfm authenticator 2.3.6
linkedin authenticator 2.3.6
messaging 2.3.6
mog music 1.0.1
motoprint 2.0.0.93
my music 2.3.6
news 2.3.6
nfl mobile 5.7
orkut authenticator 2.3.6
photobucket authenticator 2.3.6
slacker 3.1.380
slingbox 1.0
social location 6.02
social messaging 2.3.6
social messaging service 2.3.6
social networking 2.3.6
social sharing 2.3.6 **Don't disable if you plan on using "Quick Upload" for photos/videos**
social status 2.3.6
sticky note 2.3.6
twitter authenticator 2.3.6
universal inbox 2.3.6
universal inbox 2.3.6
v cast tones 4.5.13
verizon location agent 0.0.0.62
videosurf 2.0.0
voicemail 1.1 (i use google voice)
vz navigator 7.5.1.54

Just to be clear. I froze these apps, I did not delete them.

Maybe this isn't the place to post this question... But before I go and screw things up because of my incompetence, what is the most appropriate way to freeze these applications. I have successfully rooted my MAXX and have installed Root Explorer. I don't like messin' with things I don't know anything about. So when I open up Root Explorer, I am puzzled about how to take the next step. Getting rid of the list provided - or the several lists provided resonates with me. Thanks for the help.

What exactly does "freezing" do? Does it change the app name extension? Change permissions? What?

I had same problem with my phone. Yahoo stuff is totally not yahoo it has to do with the system and would make it very hard to dial out. I wish the apps were labeled better.

I have done that on a few apps. Haven't tried to change it back.

Yeah you can change it to bak, then back to apk and they'll work.

But why do it manually when we have free apps that do it for you? Google 'Bloat Freezer' and there you go.

I don't recommend freezing anything Yahoo, especially contacts. It causes my Contact Storage app (just viewing contacts, adding contacts, etc.) to Force close everytime. Once I unfroze them, I no longer had this problem.

Has anyone made a list that are safe to freeze for the ICS leak? I been having touble. I am not sure what one I froze but play store would not work and my keyboard as well. I have all defrosted. I will make a list this weekend if I get time. The rom is sweet but when I did have my apps frozen, the battery life was even better and also in 4G. I will report back as soon as I know what is safe.
To powerful to fall into my hands. Click......Rooted. ICS rommed!!!!! Muhahahahah!!!!

So if you freeze a app with whatever program you use is it truly frozen? Like with root explorer you change the apk ext. Other programs you just freeze. Does it work the same either way? I've been using Gemini app manager to freeze apps free in the market. For me to unfreeze a app all I need to do is click don't block that seems faster than changing the apk ext. Also with Gemini you get to see what permissions each app has.

I know this is pretty old now but I would like to add something. If you are brave enough and if you have a 3rd party launcher, you can freeze homescreen. I remember hearing (back with my droid x and launcher pro forums) that the stock launcher would still be running in the background. Just remember to unfreeze it before uninstalling your third party launcher.

I successfully rooted my new Razr and I'm struggling to find the bloat using root explorer (Amazon Kindle for example). I can see the bloat with titanium backup but I can't see it with root explorer. Weird. I'm looking in /system/app folder.

I'm running 6.12.181. Root explorer version v2.20.

It shouldnt, not just freezing it. However its always a good idea to backup first. You could either back up to sd/pc/ or cwm nano backup.
