Hi, Sorry for this noob question.  I have been following the website for about a year now and I love trying out things posted here. I have a razr maxx hd, bootloader unlocked on 4.12, rooted, running carbonite rom based on 4.4.2, kernel 3.0.101-g1e496b3.  After reading about the new break throughs for unlocking the boot loader and rooting on the newest kitkat, I am wondering if I need to/should upgrade to 183 and root while this is an option?  I do not understand if I will always be able to obtain root because my bootloader is unlocked and I can install su or if I will still need to use an exploit like towel root and should take advantage of that now before there is a patch to block rooting.  My concern is that I don't want to miss a window of opportunity that will prevent me from using newer roms as they come out. Sorry if I haven't presented this clearly, but it is the best way I could put it with my limited understanding of how these exploits work.

Thanks!

If you are unlocked, you have no worries regarding root. That will be flashed in custom recovery.

As for roms, as the current roms who have active development get updated for the new bootloader and kernel, you would need to update to be able to get them to boot.  This is a two edged thing if you have an older rom that you like and it is not being updated, in that once you upgrade your bootloader, you will no longer be able to boot the rom built on the older bootloader.
