Hi, I'm currently using CWM and I tried installing cm11. I followed the instructions from the cyanogenmod site, factory reset wiped all data and backed up. I didn't wipe the cache partition on the other hand so that might be the suspect. Yes, I can access cwm. Did I do something wrong? Oh, and I installed Gapps.

As of now, I went back and restored. I am currently back to how I was before but what was causing a loop? I'm contacting dhacker about it and the kernel was modified to work with kitkat builds. I don't know what happened?

I boot looped on it as well. I'm on KitStalk now and have had little issues, just read through the thread first.

Its unified msm, so it should be fine on the HD.

Not sure where to post this question been reading so many post my eyes are tired......

- XT926 upgraded to kitkat 183.46 last week via flash in RSD from JB 4.1.2

- Root went well DONE (Towel root .apk)

- Unlock went well DONE (Motopocalypse .apk) yes fastboot shows the #3

- Flashed TWRP 2.7.1 DONE (did it using the adb in motopocolypse)

- Backed up my current stock ROM in TWRP seemed to go well the program confirmed the backup was successful...So I thought :-(

- Got confident and wanted to try flashing CM11 (Kitkat version)

- After flashing CM11 my phone got stuck at boot like many others have.... no problem I backed up my stock ROM in TWRP.....So I thought :-(

- Went to restore my stock ROM using TWRP and yup you guessed it like many others the restore failed half way through

Not a big deal starting fresh can be a good thing BUT I really need my old text messages and all I have is a USB backup of the phone (Internal/SDcard) on my PC and of course the TWRP back-up on the SDcard that won’t restore ...... Is there any way to get these messages back to my phone????

Try clearing your dalvik and cache in TWRP. Do it a few times. Really, going to a brand new ROM you should not dirty flash.

Rule of thumb when flashing Source Roms. A wipe cache factory reset before installing the ROM doesn't always works so well. TWRP has a advance wipe settings. Go into that and select data, cache, dalvic and system then wipe leaving both internal and external storage unchecked. Also when restoring a backup on TWRP make sure you select the right path for it to store it on. It is best to have it store them onto the external storage JIK something gets wiped the wrong way on internal.

The official CM has changed over to the new kernel. So everyone on the new bootloader should be good now.

I got dhackers CM11 7/9 nightly build to work without a hitch. So far, so good. Had the annoying popping noise, but that was cured by going to Settings->Sounds and then turning off the Touch Sounds setting.

Other than that, so far it seems to work great. Still need to test some more, but liking it so far.

Not everyone has it. Not sure why it occurs on some phones and not others. If you don't have it, then there's nothing to worry about.

Basically, before a sound occurs (such as a notification, unlocking or locking the phone, the first time music starts up), a distinct "pop" is heard, like static electricity or something. it doesn't occur after that if sound continues on, it only occurs when some sort of sound (notification, music, etc) occurs for the first time after maybe 5 to 10 seconds since the last sound occurred.

Hey OP, was changing roms the only thing you did to solve this? I seem to having the same issue where I first tried using dhackers rom and then a CM 11 snapshot paired google app, however both roms led to boot loop. I'll give it a shot again tonight but Im not too sure what else I should be trying.

You don't need to use his version anymore, CM supports the new kernel on nightlies.

No dice. I downloaded the lastest nightly from CM as well as the google apps zip and installed using twrp 2.7.1.0 after wiping. The install said that it was successful so I pressed reboot. Now the only thing that shows up is the motorola logo with dual core technology listed under it. The phone does not seem to bootloop, just stays on this logo screen. If I power down holding power and volume down together, the phone shuts off for about 5 seconds and then the logo comes back on. If I hold power + volume up + volume down to try to enter recovery mode I can see the menu and scroll for about three seconds before the logo comes back up.I should still have a backup on the sdcard so if I can just into recovery mode that would be terrific.

Never seen or read about this issue. Does anyone have any advice?

Little bit nervous, so please help!

Alright managed to get into fastboot mode and then eventually I was able to restart the phone and get back into twrp recovery mode.

Had me a little bit worried there...

Still not sure why the nightly didn't work :/

Did you wipe cache and dalvik before rebooting? That's the final step.

The actual steps are:

1. Wipe/format cache, dalvik, data and system
2. Install CM11
3. Install GAPPs
4. Wipe cache and dalvik
5. Reboot and profit

Also, are you sure you are using the correct CM11 image? There are two types as mentioned: one for the JB (has M8 in the filename I believe) and then ones for those that have upgraded to KK.

Since you are using TWRP 2.7.1.0, I'm assuming you have upgraded your phone to stock KK since that recovery is what is needed for KK upgraded phones.

You can get the latest nightlies of CM11 for KK bootloaders here ->

I started a new thread here:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

because I feel like my issue was slightly different and was starting to hijack this thread  ;)

But to answer your questions ibolski, yea I followed those exact steps. I also used the cm-11-20140715-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960.zip file directly downloaded from the cm website as well as a few other roms to try and troubleshoot this. I'm pretty sure all of them were for the KK bootloader. A few hours ago, I tried to flash a Beanstalk derivative rom of cm11, and the same issue occured :/
