stuck on boot

kitkat stock unlocked phone was on charger overnight went to use it and said homescreen failed .. restarted and now only red m logo comes up can get to fastboot and recovery but will not flash recovery  did factory wipe and try to flash recovery on fastboot get a failed to erase partition every time try

You can get into fastboot? Is your battery charged? Are you flashing the correct recovery file? Does your phone show up in fastboot when you type "fastboot devices?" If nothing works, I would try to flash the FXZ with RSD or Sam's FXZ flasher. This is almost acting like another read-only phone.

i can get into fastboot - battery ok - try flash recovery from fxz get fail also with rsd get fail at 3\21 flash partition gpt.bin

If you are getting a fail on GPT, you are trying to downgrade.  Don't do that.

i can get to fastboot - battery ok - fastboot can detect device - tried rsd get a fail at - tried to full and universal all i get are fail gpt.bin

That looks like the correct file name for the previous OTA.  By chance did you take the soak that came out for the HD?

not that i know of - haven't done any updates since put on kitkat

Well, use SamuriHL's RSD flasher and use the universal script.  Not sure why you get a gpt error, but that will skip flashing that partition

ok tried the rsdfalsherjar - did universal then get fail sbl1.mbn
