I seem to have lost the ability to send / receive mms messages. I noticed this issue after updating to Google Hangouts 2.3. When I go to send an mms message, the message never sends (just fails) after multiple attempts of sending. Same thing can be said with incoming mms messages. I get a message that the messages are there but they need to be downloaded. When I click the message to download, it never downloads and claims that it failed after a few minutes.

Background on my device:

XT926 (Droid Raz Maxx HD)

Google Hangouts 2.3

CM11 0914 nightly installed (previous nightlies had the same issue)

Service provider is Verizon Wireless

Im almost positive that this is an APN issue. For those of you familiar with Hangouts 2.3, you can edit / add new APN's. So I went to check the default APN and its set to MetroPCS??? (Im on Verizon) The APN list has a couple of MetroPCS listings, and then about 10 Sprint lisitings. Very strange as I have Verizon and have never had a metro or sprint sim in the phone. I try to add the Verizon APN for mms (

311, 480) and it never shows up in the APN list, even after about ten tries. For some reason Im not able to add new APN's, not sure why? Next thought is to just go into one of the MetroPCS or Sprint listings and edit them to be the Verizon specifications. When I go ahead and save the changes, the APN list shows back up but with none of the new edits / what I just typed in. I also tried clearing all of the listed APN's in order to "make room" for a Verizon listing but that didn't work either.

Next step is to check the APN settings in the Mobile Networks tab under device settings (outside of the hangouts app). These APN settings at least let me add a new APN with the proper information and save, but no luck on being able to send an MMS.

I also confirmed that this is not only a hangouts issue, by attempting to send an MMS message via the CM11 Messaging app. No luck on that route either.

Does anyone know why I can't add a new APN or save edits to a current APN listing within Google Hangouts? Any other ideas on what this could be and how to fix it?

Thanks!

Do you use the default MMS messaging app, CM11 messaging, or are you sending text messages through Hangouts? Also, which android version & build are you on? Make sure the default messaging app is set in your settings.

in Hangouts throughout multiple carriers and Google has some work to do. I freeze the app because I have so many problems with it.

@racer580: Try turning off wifi before sending an mms message, and see what that does.
