moto maxx no service how to solve

If it is booting fine but no service my first suggestion is to replace the sim card.  That would mean a trip to the maze of verizon support.

Before going to the store, I'd try powering off, remove the sim, power up fully, power down, then put the sim back in and power up.

If your using the cable that came with your phone from the factory that should be ok. Give it a good look over for damage and wear.

They up and down so often anymore that I would suggest a google search for root for the phone model you have and a lot of caution.  Most modern root tools do not give complete root unless you have an unlocked bootloader and then flash Chainfire's SuperSu.  The 1080 can be unlocked via Sunshine for a $25.00 fee.  Google Sunshine bootloader unlock.
