Ok so I have a big issue and I'm afraid that I may be stuck. I flashed this update and all went well, I even got to keep my root. I did not see anywhere when I did it that Safestrap 3.07 would not install on it. So while being in this 98.72.8 update, I could not install and open SafeStrap 3.07. Once I figured this out, I freaked out and went into Matts Utility and turned my phone on AP Fastboot and tried fastbooting back into official .211 ICS.

Now I am stuck because I am unable to get past the boot screen (red M). After that it goes straight to a black screen.
The only issue that I found when I tried AP Fastboot back to .211 ICS is that in Matts Utility it all flashed like normal EXCEPT 'boot' which said " writing 'boot' ... INFOPreflash validation failure
FAILED (remote: ) "

I know I am dumb for trying to Fastboot back to ICS but I freaked out. Is there any possible way to get my phone up and running again? Even if I have to get this update running on it again and I do have to be stuck with it. I think that only problem is the 'boot' area that went wrong in the utility.

I did the same thing and went back into factory recovery and installed jb leak again. Went smoothly except for no way to root jb yet. :(

Just in case this unbrick tool doesnt work, what were your steps? Fastboot .211, even with 'boot' error, then do u go straight to recovery and install the jb leak? or did you wipe cache and/or factory reset?

The unbrick util just makes it to you can reapply the update in recovery. You simply skipped the unbrick part which flashes parts of the 211 fastboot files, which you already applied.

Can anybody confirm if this takes you off the normal OTA upgrade path. For example if this isn't the finish build can I upgarde to the official build if there is one?

They have to. This update was released over the air to many people, they have to provide an easy ota to the final build for those people who legitamently took this. Not only that, but verizon will replace a phone stuck on this accidental update if you call them.

Two things. First, yes, they will have to provide an OTA update to bring this build up to the final JB build. That will happen after the final build OTA. Second, once the final build is out, it's likely you'll see a new FXZ for it. You'll be able to fastboot that from any build to get back up to the official builds.

For those of you that want a more detailed writeup here it goes...

  • Flash back to stock .211 via matt's utility (option 1)
  • After setting up phone again root it via matt's utility (option 2)
  • Download and install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper
  • Click the "protect root" button
  • Click Temp. Unroot
  • Click Restore Root
  • Click Temp. Unroot again
  • Plug usb into your phone and copy the update over to your external sd card.
  • Hold Power and both Volume Up and Down until boot screen appears
  • From boot screen, scroll down to “Recovery” with Volume Down
  • Press Volume Up to select it once it has been highlighted
  • When Android and exclamation show up, press both Volumes at the same time
  • Then “install update from external storage” and find Blur_Version.6.16.211.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip
  • Flash update (flash will take like 10 minutes)
  • Wipe data (factory reset) <-- Probably optional but recommended
  • After going through initial setup again download Voodoo OTA from market again and click restore root button
  • Download superuser/super su from market
  • PROFIT!
This is the exact steps that I took and I have root. Hopefully this helps out...

worked for me as well, and I also have root :)

Thanks Matt

It fools the phone into letting you install the jellybean update again.

The only drawback to it is that it flashes the system img from 211. As a result, you will lose root with no current method to get it back.

Ah I see. This would have saved me some time. Thanks anyways! Now we just gotta get a good root exploit. Any news on that? Know of anyone that might need help with it?

There's only one person I know of who's capable of it and I have NO idea if he's even looking at it. I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening any time soon. Root exploits for Moto phones are becoming harder and harder to come by.
