The easiest way to get a custom recovery is

  • You should have an unlocked bootloader

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

  • Download an app called GooManager from the Play Store

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

    .
  • Open the GooManager App, Grant Super user access, Press menu or the 3 dots on the top right corner
  • Click on Install OpenRecoveryScript
  • Confirm by pressing yes
  • It will find a Recovery.img which is most likely to be the latest TWRP available for your device,
  • Confirm again by pressing Yes
  • It will than download and install the recovery and it will reboot your device and come back to GooManager where you can than
  • Press on Reboot recovery

you than should have TWRP recovery enjoy.

The other way is doing it with fastboot

  • Download

  • Download

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

  • Extract it to your Desktop
  • In the folder Hold Shift key down and right click
  • Click on Open Command Window Here
  • Turn off your device. Turn on the device and keep holding volume down until a menu shows up. It should say "Fastboot" under Unlocked.Press Volume Up to enter fastboot mode. Plug the device into your computer. If you have the right drivers installed, then your computer should detect the device and install all the right drivers. Run the following command via the command line:
  • fastboot flash recovery XT907-TWRP-2.6.3.0-recovery.img or fastboot flash recovery cw-recovery-scorpion_mini.img
  • fastboot reboot

With a costume recovery does it let you dress up like Superheroes?

You can change it online as long as you use the full editor I believe.

I just used the fast boot method listed in the op on my boot loader unlocked retail version. Everything went flawlessly. Thanks for making the quick tutorial!

Last I checked, goo manager didn't pick up anything for the XT926. I like old school anyway and fastbooted.

It should have worked. To access recovery boot to fastboot screen then scroll to recovery.  :)

There is also an app in the play store called Quick Boot that is a boot menu  allowing you to hot reboot straight into recovery.

Oh boy... Why don't you have the Google apps??

I would suggest a factory reset at this point or use Matt's Utility to fastboot back to stock. Seems like you have more going on than just needing recovery.

You have bigger problems than needing a recovery.  You need to fastboot your phone back to stock and start over.
