Well, I'm thinking about getting one or the other. I haven't had cable for approximately 11 months due to not watching much tv. W/ that said I'm willing to try either Roku or Google TV.

Which one would you recommend and if Roku, which box? And I assume these will work with a wireless connection. I have wireless internet, no cables.

ETA: Or are they a bit of a gimmick and I'm best off just sticking with using my computer hooked up to my TV to stream Netflix, Amazon, and the likes?

I had a roku, and I got google tv. roku has more video channels, but limited local media streaming, The google tv blows the roku out of the water when it comes to apps and local media streaming. When I had the roku I used netflix, hulu & crackle, now that I have a google tv, I use netflix and local media streaming, for some reason hulu hates google, so whatever.

It is really nice having a web browser on the tv, not so much for me, but for my daughter, she can play a bunch of flash games and have interactive kids stuff. Plus with the logitech, it uses the harmony remote control turning my phone into a universal remote for my tv.

Can't say anything about roku but I just got a Sony blueray Google tv box and have been playing with it and setting it up. So far it looks great and I am happy with my purchase. Big music lover so it is nice having my Google music app on my tv now with my sound system.

How are the channels? Many free channels or a lot of ones you have to pay for?

I have only had it a couple hours so I am still trying to get used to it but I have found a few useful apps but still have a lot to figure out. The actual Google tv channel thing I have to read up on.

I had the same problem last year. I went with the Apply TV, but the Roku was my second choice. I wanted to watch Netflix and Podcasts, so the Apple was perfect for me.

Nothing is going to beat a pc. A pc can do anything a streaming media player can do and so much more. But if you are compelled to make a purchase on an obsolete device, go with an Apple TV. Even though I am anti anything Apple, it's the best option in my eyes do to the fact that it can be unlocked to enable XBMC and NAVI-X to be installed.
