You MUST be on a completely stock android 2.3.6 system version .181, rooted by Motofail! or this method will not work!!

this means no modified recovery (bootstrap/safestrap) can be installed and you must have Full Bloat in-tact or the update will not take during installation. .. This is Non-Fastbootable back to Gingerbread!!!!!!!!

Step 1:

USE DROID RAZR UTILITY 1.6 (option 1) -

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

::

  • extract the files folder and the .bat file to your desktop of your PC
  • open the .bat file; utility 1.6 command prompt window will open, hit enter and select: OPTION 1 (this will take 8-12minutes)
    • when option 1 completes, your phone will unpackage and begin installing a fresh copy of .181, after Device Setup is complete... its time to root your phone!
  • re-open the .bat file; hit enter and select: OPTION 2 (this will root your phone with Motofail, takes 2 minutes to complete)

Step 2:

DOWNLOAD & INSTALL FROM GOOGLE PLAY

  • ROM MANAGER FREE
  • ES FILE EXPLORER
  • OTA ROOTKEEPER
  • Once you have these files on your Stock RAZR running android (6.12.181), rooted (motofail). ..
  • open rom manager free, hit OK, now press the home button.
  • open es file explorer, press YES, press menu, open settings, scroll down to and Enable the following options
    • Up to Root (path settings)
    • Root Explorer (root settings)
    • Mount File System (root settings)
  • open ota rootkeeper, allow SU, and Protect SU

Step 3:

DOWNLOAD THE 211 UPDATE ZIP AND PLACE INTO YOUR PHONES /CACHE DIRECTORY (not /system/cache, but in the root of the phone)

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

[(MD5: 79A1EE4A992EACD1D08F98DEE5DEEBF7)]

once this file has been moved into your /cache directory, and you have checked the MD5 to ensure a non-corrupt download, you may proceed!

Quick check list:::::

1) Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US is your phones /cache directory with a matching MD5!!
2) Opened OTA rootkeeper and protected SU!

**INSTALL TIME*

open ES FILE EXPLORER, locate your /cache directory and then select the Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip

(now choose Open With ROM MANAGER)

phone will restart, and begin installation of the 6.16.211 (takes 10-15minutes)
phone restarts, boot animation begins, Android is upgrading :: Profit success!! Celebrate!!!

**FINISH TIME*

open OTA ROOTKEEPER, and restore SU. If the option is not available, no worries as you can still root with this

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

(Just download the ZIP file, extract it to your desktop. Open it up and click the windows or linux version)

It is the same file as the OTA. Only difference is your installing it instead of receiving the update over the air. and your getting it earlier. Bootloader is updated so going back to Gingerbread is out of the picture, but you will still be on the Path if and when they do push another OTA.

So lets just say I took the OTA (which I did) and wanted to flash a ROM and if for some reason things go wrong and I brick. Well there are no Fastboot files yet but would I be able to use Matt's 1.7 utility to get unstuck and get things running normal again and still be on the path? Sorry I havent been on the leaks and havent messed with them too much

Fastbooting is easier. And you don't wipe data if you use the 1.7 utility.

I'm just about to do this but have a few questions:

So you just place the Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US file into the cache directory and install via ROM manager?

I'm pretty sure ROM manager works only with Clockwork Recovery? So is a recovery other than stock required to install the update?

Would you get the same thing is you put the file into the cache directory and do a "check for update" in the "about phone" section as long as you rename it update.zip?

Just follow the directions, I have broken it down "Barney style"

Stock 181
rooted by motofail
download and open ota rootkeeper (protect SU)
download and open rom manager free (press the ok button and then back out)
download and open es file explorer (set the program up like i list in the OP)

once you do all that, then your system is ready to install the OTA, which means all you need to do is now place the OTA zip file on your phones /cache directory.....
now you have done all that, you can open and goto your cache directory using ES file Explorer, and when you press on the zip file it will open a prompt window asking what you want to do, you choose Open with ROM Manager, it reboot and installs.

simple, easy, done.,
