So with the rollout of the new Android 4.4 KitKat, does anybody think that people here the wonderful site of Droidrzr find a update for us and maybe even roms for it? I know it's nothing major, from what I've read it's supposed to make it a little faster and a new texting configuration, but I don't plan on upgrading my phone until about May of next year so this may be my final time flashing to find a daily driver and I would certainly love it to be one I can remember and look back and ponder while scrolling on the screen of my eventual new phone..... Also I'm on BW HD V2 4.1.2 is that outdated?? Thanks for anyones input.

For crying out loud, we're not even officially on 4.2 yet. 4.3 has only been developed for about 2 months now.  4.4 hasn't even been released, but I'm sure we'll get custom ROMs that are based off of it.  With that being said, I wouldn't count on getting an official 4.2, 4.3, or even 4.4.  Leave those for the new Droids and the X.

The xt912 is at the end of life. Official 4.2 is most likely not gonna happen so logically 4.3 or 4.4 is out of the question especially considering the hardware limitations of this device. I would imagine moving forward some custom stuff for 4.3 may happen but it will probably be few and far between at best. The reason I say this is because fewer and fewer developers/users even own a RAZR. If you have a ROM you enjoy, stick with it, outdated doesn't mean crap.

@ aneesh...I'm sure Rik was not trying to pick on anyone. The fact of the matter is "noobs" and even experienced users have very unrealistic expectations (developers have lives and don't do this full time for a paycheck). A lot of the "issues" posted on this forum are due to user error or just ignorance/laziness. A little effort, research and reading goes a long way.

@Rik...Fwiw I agree 100% lol!

As a mod I did not see anything wrong with Rik's comments. He was not making fun of anyone. He actually answered the question very well.

As an Android enthusiast I sense and understand the frustration of someone asking for the latest unreleased version of software for a phone that is 2 generations old. That is like asking when flying cars come out can I strap the wings on my ford bronco and fly??

@Buckeye I hope you understand our frustration with these type of questions. I've seen tons of Rik's posts and have never seen him talk down or make fun of anyone so I hope you don't take it that way.

My response wasn't aimed at making fun of the OP.  The "crying out loud" was more out of exasperation at the fact that we probably won't even see 4.2.

I understand, I typed this at about 2 eastern time so I was just scrolling and tired and didn't think things through. I thought I seen we had CM for version 4.3 in a screenshot in one of the topics OP. I didn't want to come off as greedy and I apologize if I did. Now that I'm up to date on the knowledge here, I have a more off topic question, I want to build my own rom, I know it may seem out of whack but since I get my new phone relatively soon I can use my Razr like a test dummy. Can anyone give me a good place to read up on how make my own? I tried to do themes, but every post I read had dead links and wasn't 100% clear.

I wasn't looking for themes at least not yet, I would like to learn how to make my own rom or maybe customize one of the roms already made until I learn everything I need to and make it to my liking.

There is a 4.3 out for our XT912's.. I personally don't believe its any good.. But I'm pretty sure give it 6 months, there will be a leak for 4.4.. Probably with not everything working but still a functional 4.4..

1st post... registered just to add my $0.02 as IMHO this is a perfectly valid question, just a bit early to get any definitive answers, as Arikr just said above.

It's important to note that a major thrust of KitKat is to reduce memory use and improve speed, efficiency, battery life.  These goals are perfectly suited for legacy hardware.

If the internet has taught me anything, it's that for a mass produced platform like the Razr / Razr MAXX, there will likely be folks out there somewhere with the equipment, abilities, and time to get it done.  It's just a matter of time.

Sounded like 4.4 could run on "inexpensive" smartphones. Would that be equivelant to the phones running gingerbread? Older phones?

If so, sounds like 4.4 could run on anything. I was expecting to see development for ROMS jump to 4.4, since the phone hardware

does not have to be "high end".

Just a thought.

LJ

The new “KitKat” version of Android will be able to run on inexpensive, low-end smartphones as well as the most advanced devices, Sundar Pichai, Google Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome and Apps said at a press event in San Francisco on Thursday.

Been a while since I've been here... well quite honestly I think even though our device very well could support a rom 4.4 base. I think the development community is pretty dead... It was a good run had my phone for its 18 months and its been from GB all the way to JB only two upgrades but...if your're out the devs... its me Adrian and if you could squeeze out a kit kat rom oh golly... lol

After Verizon said that the XT912 wasn't getting upgraded any longer (and out of support) I went ahead and loaded Safestrap and Cyanogenmod11 / Spyder (KitKat / Android 4.4).   It works great and have subsequently loaded numerous daily's without event.   I would highly recommend keeping your stock image (ROM) so that you can (basically instantly) revert back to it in the event of an issue.   Safestrap allows you to switch back and forth between multiple ROMS (OS versions... STOCK, 1, 2, so on).

The one issue I can't seem to figure out is how to unlock the (service provider of this) phone.   The standard unlock techniques do not work on this phone.
