Well it failed the system version assertion anyway, so, clearly I have issues.  I restored my MR2 backup so I need to figure out what the hell I did wrong.

But I also get the stupidity award for mislabeling my backup.  SIGH. I'm using the House of RAZR_HD to fix it shortly and then I can try again.

On stock based ROMs I've always gotten the notifications. Freeze the updater.apk and that will stop it

The official Motorola Feedback Forums that I'm not reading or quoting have mentions of people who have successfully downloaded the soak via OTA and were able to successfully install the soak. But I have yet to see anyone comment about relock or other detrimental issues. So still waiting to see.

I read one person didn't loose root and another persons boot loader remained unlocked on those forums.

I would expect losing root.  I would not expect the bootloader to relock.  It's technically possible for them to do so but not without risk to the dev phones.  Root can be fixed from custom recovery once you flash that back.  Obviously that requires being unlocked still.

Ok, neat.  Mine failed at the end of the update, as well.  Here's why:

assert failed: motorola.update_bl_backup()

I think it doesn't like our unlocked bootloaders and fails to update it.  OH WELL.  :)

The soak signup warned that this was not friendly for rooted/unlocked users, no details, but in a respectful way

It's not.  I bricked my supposedly unlocked phone.  sigh. I'm going to need an FXZ of this stupid update to fix it.  I can't get custom recovery to flash at all.

I installed the 52mb update on the developer ed.

Looks like the update contains:

- All new firmware for: fsg, modem, tzapps, dsps and rpm

- All 3 secondary bootloaders: sbl1, sbl2 and sbl3 updated

- There's a gpt_main0 update

- emmc_appsboot update

- and the bootloader check/backup at the end

Other notables:

- This includes a new jar for simalliance openmobileapi:

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

- VmWare update

OTA Root keeper seems to work (I was temp un-rooted when I did the update tho)

If you wish to install this update (and if I was on a consumer device I might still debate avoiding it for a while):

You will want to restore the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file prior to flashing because recoveries like TWRP rename it.  If you don't fix this you'll end up aborting after the system files patch with this in /cache/recovery/last_log:

Symlinks and permissions...set_perm: chown of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to 0 2000 failed: No such file or directory

set_perm: chmod of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to 500 failed: No such file or directory
script aborted: set_perm: some changes failed

After a completed update my AP fastboot screen shows:

AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)

10.9B(*) (sha-1e9f557, 2013-05-25 01:04:26)

>> OLD has the same version and sha-1 but different build date: 2013-02-14 09:13:08

eMMC Info: Size 16GB

Device is UNLOCKED, Status Code: 3

Battery OK

Connect USB

Data Cable

Partition (sbl2) Security Version Downgraded
failed to hab check for sbl3: 0x4e
failed to hab check for aboot: 0x4e
failed to hab check for rpm: 0x4e
failed to hab check for tz: 0x4e

Hash, any idea what the part I highlighted means?  Right now I'm in a very ugly state.

Is that the special "moto" fastboot binary?  I normally only get that when I use the stock Google SDK fastboot.

What's happening w/ your device?

I think it means that it's going to reflash stock recovery on reboot? Apparently there's a /system file that needs to be disabled for it not to reflash stock recovery on boot, at least that's the case on the Photon 4G LTE, where I got this info from. Haha.

Have you been able to get the phone to boot back up yet?

I got it back.  I did stupid stuff to it.  Let me document to prevent other people from having problems.  I'm on an unlocked consumer version of the HD.

FXZ'd back to MR2, took the update.  It failed as I noted before with a moto_bl_backup() assert failure, but, the update seemed to be installed just fine.

At this point I wanted to install TWRP so I could restore root and take a nandroid.  TWRP would NOT load even though it seemed to succeed in flashing.  Getting frustrated, I decided to FXZ back to MR2.  That was a horrifyingly bad mistake.  Got a security violation and it kicked me out of RSD in the middle of it and booted me into AP Fastboot in a very bad state.

Was able to flash CWR and boot that, then, I rebooted back to AP Fastboot, flashed TWRP again, and was able to restore my MR4 backup and am back in business.  I think I'll wait til someone has a TWRP flashable version of this crazy update before I screw with it again.  I simply wanted the latest radios to see if it helps GPS, but, um, yea....

I pride myself in being able to come up with really stupid ideas and causing myself all kinds of issues. LMAO.  I may give it another try and see how painful I can make this on myself.  Or I may go back to CM 10.1 and call it good.  LOL.

I've been through worse.  I'm a bionic owner, after all.  :D  At least with this unlocked bootloader I can recover and get myself back to a useful state.
