Well once again another great Motorola phone comes out, the Droid RAZR HD! The RAZR line has been a big success for VZW. Here at DroidRZR.com we are excited to offer support for the device. If you are like me the first thing you did was open it up and rooted it. With rooting your device comes the risk of soft bricking , bootloops, etc. Well Motorola makes these nice little files that can restore your Motorola device to 100% stock. There are two ways you can go about restoring your device. Option 1 is using RSDLite 5.7. Or using a cmd window from your PC and manually pushing the system, or other components, to your device. This requires you to have your phone in bootloader mode. So to begin you will have to do the following.

1) Download the proper drivers for your PC.

2) Download RSDLite.

3) Make sure all drivers are properly installed and the PC recognizes your phone.

4) Download the XML file that is going to save your phone.

5) Download the Moto files (optional) if you are planing on using a CMD window, manual method.

Now that you have all the correct software downloaded you can start to restore your device. If you are using RSDLite to restore YOU DO NOT NEED ADB TO USE IT, IF YOU ARE DOING THE MANUAL WAY YOU DO NEED ADB INSTALLED ON YOUR PC. This thread is not to teach you how to download the SDK and set up ADB. Just use Google and a million sites will pop up. Restoring your device with RSD is as easy as it gets.

1) Install RSDLite and open it up. If you are not running your PC as the administrator then right click on it and choose run as administrator.

2) Hook your phone up to your PC and put your phone in bootloader mode. It will say on the device , USB connected ready to transfer. On the screen it will display your device.

3) Extract the xml file you downloaded , then click browse in RSD to choose it.

4) Click start to begin and sit back it will take some time to finish. This can take anywhere from 8-20 min to complete.

5) When it is done it will reboot or say reboot on the screen sometimes you have to manually reboot .

***************************************************************************************NOTE***************************************************************************************
NEVER PULL THE CABLE OUT OF YOUR PHONE WHILE THIS IS RUNNING OR BUMP IT . THIS COULD CAUSE PERMANET DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE. EVEN IF IT IS HANGING JUST WAIT AND BE PATIENT. ALSO DO NOT LET THE DEVICE UPDATE. AFTER IT UPDATES THEN BOOT INTO RECOVERY AND DO A FACTORY DATA RESET. 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 THE PHONE WILL NOT BOOT A WIPE IS HIGHLY RECOMENDED AFTER THE PHONE UPDATES.
**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

6) Now you are done your phone is back to 100% stock. Remember that you do have to root your phone again. Profit!

You can also restore your phone if you flashed something and your phone bootlooped or you deleted a app that you should not of. Most of the time all you need to do is just flash the system to the device. Follow the steps below to manually flash your phone back to a working state.
1) Open up a cmd window

2) Navigate to where the folder with the Moto files needed is at. It is marked HD. So if it's on your desktop type "cd Desktop/HD"

3) Make sure you put the "system.img.ext4" file inside of the HD folder. That file is located in the zip file that is 600+MB .

4) Put your phone in Bootloader mode. Make sure that you have USB debugging enabled before shutting off the device.

5) Now hook your phone up and type " moto-fastboot.exe flash system system.img.ext4 " This will flash in several parts and should only take a few minutes to complete.

6) When it is done type " moto-fastboot.exe reboot "

7) Done! You will have to root your phone again. Your phone will be back to stock again, well the part that matters anyway.

What lines did you remove? Cause I've ran it, after I unzipped it, just fine.

I did a factory reset but still have the same problem. Is the lastest official update available somewhere for download so i can manually do a manual update?

I would use Matts DROID RAZR HD Utility, I have personally had better luck using that.

I'm unable to flash the stock firmware with either RSDLite or the command line fastboot. In RSDLite it gets to trying to do system.img.ext4 and then has this error

Failed flashing process. 16/27 flash system "system.img.ext4" -> Phone returned FAIL

The command line version gave this

moto-fastboot.exe flash system system.img.ext4
sending 'system' (262144 KB)... OKAY [ 90.766s]
writing 'system'... INFOProtocol error (multiflash unexpected)

FAILED (remote failure)

I've also tried the utility on both windows and mac and get failures when it tries to flash the system image

I found a solution, open the xml file and remove the lines with "getvar". Don't just remove the word "getvar" but the entire line that is within the file, there are also to lines of this. Did a little forum snooping to find my answer  Also, I'm very new to the droid / android community. Just switched from an iPhone 4S

I just flashed back to stock after installing the JB leak and had 2 issues. Hopefully I can save someone else the few minutes of stress I had. First, like others I had to edit the XML fil and remove the two lines with "getvar". Siple. Then it kept failing at step 16 when it was flashing system.img.ext4. Turns out using RSDLite 5.7 will not work. Had to get version 6.1.4 as you can see Playb3yond used above. Here is a link that I got off of XDA-developers.com.

yep I know I went through the same issue for around 6 hours yesterday because I was tired as heck and accidently formatted stock system lol, if I had of known that this wasn't the correct version I would have been soo much happier lol
I tried matts utility and it just kept freezing after completing the boot part of the process. Idk why but this seemed to be the only way to fix my problem was through 6.1.4
