Noob-ish questions...I got a Verizon "Limited Edition" XT926M, the red/black Verizon employee model, new, never activated and running ICS 4.0.4.  (system version 0.6.25.XT926.verizon.en.US, build # 7.7.1Q-144_VQW_S334-25)    Want to root and unlock, play with some ROMs....I rooted/unlocked another XT926M running 182.46.10 without much drama using the methods posted at

, but I'm unclear whether this method is appropriate for a stock/nonupdated phone running the earlier system (as I think it is stated it works on 182.46.10).  Also...I can't find the TWRP version for this phone in the devices list on the TWRP Website, can anyone point me to the correct version?  Last dumb noob question...someone told me "once unlocked, always unlocked," i.e. an already unlocked phone can't be re-locked, like by installing say the "fatal" VZW Kitkat 183.46.15 that closes the unlock exploits on locked phones.  True?

Thanks, awsome forum.

[FXZ]-4.4.2-183.46.10 and upgrade to .10 ..... Then go back to the root and unlock thread and, well..... Root and UNLOCK!!! ..... Correct, once it is unlocked, its unlocked period !!! :)

TWRP should be there on the site (listed under "vanquish" .... But we also have a thread here for it as well....:)

If you miss your chance to unlock now it may never come back. There are 3 people besides yourself on right now trying to find a way to unlock after taking poor advice and upgrading to .15 for the new root exploit that came out last week. That exploit lets them root but will brick the device when attempting to unlock.  Do it now while your safe and never have to worry about root again. John is giving you top advice.

**unlock now**  Roger that...this is not a phone I'm using now, no SIM card in it even.  Once rooted and unlocked it's a backup/sandbox  phone.  So, do I understand that unlocking was NEVER possible for the XT926M before 182.46.10....?  And ONLY possible on *.10 Kitkat, right?  (Like, never on ICS or JB?)

The last 926 I unlocked also had no SIM....yet (I think) it downloaded and wanted to install *.15 over my WiFi!  Have you heard of that? I thought VZ updates only came OTA via the mobile network.  This red phone is sitting in airplane mode now.

I had actually hoped to find a developer version of this phone...do they exist?  Never seen one offered on ebay.

The Maxx HD never had a developer edition. I haven't seen the unlock tools around for JB. That doesn't rule out the chance that some one doesn't have them stashed away on their hardrive.  But with the ease of two apk one click method i believe that is why they are not being used.  Yes it will keep offering the OTA to upgrade from .10 to .15. The update comes from Motorola so it will get to you with or without a sim. I have two Maxx HD phones that are both unlocked and running the .15 build.  After dealing with issues on a locked device with verizon I will never purchase a locked device again.  Both my Maxx HD's are also used as backup devices only and that is even getting to be a problem with the now standard nano sim instead of the micro sim the Maxx HD takes. Sim adapters can be a problem and damage the phone unless they fit very well and are treated with care.

AFAIK the HD did have a dev edition (which other than the ability to unlock at any time, there was no difference in them)..... Anyway... There was previous times when the HD could be unlocked via the exploit.... But NOT the version that you are on (I don't think) ....

If you do the upgrade and unlock you are not stuck on the .10 version.... You can (with a process) downgrade back to the version you are on if you so desire, the main difference is..... You will be unlocked....:)

Also...... If you don't want the update notification to show up (after you unlock) you can use titanium backup (or similar tool) to freeze or delete the updater and you'll not see it again :);)

This thread seems to imply rooting/unlocking is possible on 4.0.4?  He doesn't say he updated to Kitkat *.10.  He was running the exact system my Red phone has.

That dev edition was a droid razr hd not the droid razr maxx hd.  Difference was 16 gig storage not 32 gig storage.

The original unlock worked on Jelly Bean and should work on ICS because the trust zone is vulnerable.  I can't remember what JB version was unlocked, but IIRC it was in April of 2013.  Here a link to Motopocalypse

.  Try it out and see how it goes.  If it doesn't work, you'll have to upgrade to .10 and unlock.

Thanks, I'll try it.  Likely to brick if it doesn't work?

On the ICS or JB versions.... No, not likely to brick..... If it fails, it will simply fail....

Root and unlock success, using Motofail2go and Motopocalypse.  Confirmed success on stock VZW ICS 4.0.4.  Thanks guys!

Hmmm...now thinking about next moves after rooting & unlocking, it occurs after reading more....maybe I  want the 4.4.2 bootloader (*.10 version or *.15?)  prior to installing custom recovery and/or ROMs, no yes?  So if I use the procedure at

, I guess I gotta re-root after, correct?   I'm thinking of installing CM12...what's best procedure?

All you will have to do is reinstall TWRP after flashing. When you are finished with the settings in TWRP and reboot your device it will ask you if you want to root your device.  Follow the prompts and after your system is up you will be prompted to download SuperSU from the play store, do that and open SuperSu and let it update the binaries if necessary.  That should be it.  Never worry about gaining root access again and you can go ahead and update to the latest kitkat .15 doesn't matter now that your unlocked.
