Hello,

I have XT912 running stock 9.8.20-72_vzw-15-5_CFC from a FXZ using HoM4.1.  All apps are as flashed from HoM, except PlayStore and Gmail, which were updated. The phone seem to be running slow, so I cleared cache I using stock recovery. At reboot the phone appeared to try random pin patterns to unlock.  Next, emergency numbers screen appeared with random numbers being selected by the phone. This screen showed safemode button at bottom left of screen. The screen would not accept any input.  The only buttons lit were the search and go back features - home and menu keys were blacked out.

I did a FXZ keeping user data, same result. I tried a FXZ full wipe, same result. I turned the phone off, activated another phone and hoped morning would bring better thoughts.

The next morning the screen was backlit. When I tried to turn the phone on the top 25% of the screen was white and the bottom 75% was green. Droid startup sound and vibrate notification are present but nothing else.

The phone will boot to AP Fastboot; I tested via computer as screen is black.  When charging, there is an initial backlight then nothing. Internal SD is present and viewable on computer. However, apps from previous downloads are still present in spite of fresh FXZ.

I appreciate any help.

If you can get into recovery do a factory reset. The data reset is sometimes necessary after even a full flash.  If that doesn't work, verify your download of the fxz file, make sure you use a usb 2.0 port and the moto cable.

Is there a way to do a factory reset without the phone's keyboard, i.e., from ADB or control phone from computer?  I got nothing usable on the screen. It boots into white and green screen which changes into white then black but nothing I can visually use.

I rebuilt HoM files (extract/omap/image/generate scripts) and did a fresh FXZ with full wipe.

HoM seemed ok, except 'cannot load cdrom' was the last message after "okay recovery" then HoM continued preinstall finished, said complete and closed.  HoM has done that before for XT912 and the phone seem to work ok afterwards...thoughts/comments/suggestions?

I still have the same screen issues. When internal SD viewed on computer files such as twrp/safestrap from previous FXZ are still present which makes me think it did not do a full wipe.

On the first page of HoM 4.1 there are support files listed you should use these with your phone

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

Unzip those files to the HouseOfMoto/TOOLS folder and overwrite the existing files. Re create the script and run it one more time.  Make sure you are using a usb 2.0 port and the motorola cable.

I did as you suggested. Sorry for the slow reply, I was trying to test the phone before taking your time.

I have question, on the OMAP extract step - I merged some files and updated others. When I finished, I had 2 of 3 files updated in the Tools/Windows folder. After running HoM, I still had the error 'cannot update cdrom' but HoM finished as if all was well.

The phone rebooted and made some attempt at a setup. Again, only go back/search keys are lit; home/menu are dark. Menu button will allow some selections. The screen is flickering and color is not completely correct. The entire touch screen is not working correctly, there are section which are not active. Example, press apps will get me to the correct screen BUT I cannot get to the setting portion of the apps menu because the screen will not swipe consistenly. The screen touch not reliable, in that after 15-20minutes the menu button is no longer functioning. If setting untouched, the screen will try to change, i.e. while I was typing this message maps tried to open.  Upon reboot the menu key is active again.

Thoughts? Am I toast or just an incorrect use of HoM/flash?

It sounds like the digitizer is going out.  Has the phone gotten damp, dropped etc?

Right now is a good time to be looking at a different phone I am afraid.  There are some good deals on 2013 moto x dev editions and a good deal floating around on 2014 moto x referbished.  Look in the rss feed for some current deals as well as swappa.com and ebay.
