Razr Maxx HD red eye of death

Best Answer spainter , 02 January 2016 - 07:31 PM

get the factory image file here: https://androidfileh...269982087011676

Then setup and flash with House of moto 4.3. follow the instructions to the letter and don't clear data or user data.

That will only replace the system files. Providing that the run through the factory recovery didn't clear your data you should have it all there after flashing with HOM.

All,

My razr rebooted the other day while I was playing a game and it is now stuck on the red eye of death. It's randomly rebooted from time to time before but this is the first time it wouldn't recover. I imagine it's a hardware failure or possible a corrupt OS, but I haven't given up hope yet. The camera was saving the pics to the SD card, so I should be good there (hopefully). However, there are a few things that I would like to recover from the internal memory if possible (contacts, text message history, downloaded files, etc). Here is what I know so far: Debug mode was turned on prior to the crash. The phone does charge. While stuck on the red eye screen I would hold down the power button and the volume up/down buttons to reboot it. When I did this it sometimes vibrated as if it was taking a screenshot. This made me think the OS still had life but for some reason couldn't fully boot. I cleared the cache through the recovery menu. Since then it no longer vibrates like it's taking a screen shot. Perhaps clearing the cache made the problem worse? I have not been able to get it to boot into safe mode by holding the volume down button at the dual core screen. I can boot to the recovery menu and fast boot mode. I have Motorola Mobile Drivers 6.3.0 installed on an XP service pack 3 machine however I don't believe it is recognizing the phone correctly. On the red eye screen it sees it as a generic MTP device. While in fastboot mode is recognizes it as a Mot Single ADB Interface. When I run ADB is doesn't find it as a device. RSD Lite sees that it is connected but won't display any of the Device Properties. I am going to uninstall the drivers and reinstall. I will also try a few different cables (including a factory Motorola).

The phone was running whatever the latest version of Kit Kat is for Verizon. I don't plan on using it as a phone again so I don't want to do a factory reset. My main goal is to try to recover a few files if possible. It's probably too broken to get anything, but it's fun to try. If I could copy the partitions to my XP machine I could mount it as a drive, but if I remember correctly you have to be able to boot to be able to do that.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

That worked, thanks! I followed the instructions exactly as they were described with no issues. The phone is back up and running. Looks like most, if not all, of my data is still there. This is the 4th Motorola I've had and they have all been built like tanks. Everyone I've owned have taken some serious abuse but keep on keepin' on. I started with the original Razr, then a Q9M, next a Droid 2, and now the Razr Maxx HD. I think my two favorites were the Q9M and the Droid 2. I like the Q9 just because it was a nice form factor. Fit my hand well, good keyboard, and interfaced with Windoze fairly decently. The Droid 2 was nice as well because of the Android OS and I liked the slide out keyboard. This Razr Maxx HD has been a good phone, but I miss the physical keyboard. I use the backspace as much as anything because I am constantly fat fingering when I type on it. I use the voice recognition quite a bit for that reason.

It's definitely time to retire this phone, though. I think I have had it about 3 years. The battery gets pretty warm at times and swells up to the point that is has popped half of the back cover loose. Strangely the battery life is still fairly decent, however. I cracked the glass earlier this year and it has been getting steadily worse (of course). The random reboots have been happening for a while now. Hard to say if the reboots have been due to the OS getting corrupted or flaky hardware.

I'm bummed that my next phone won't be a Motorola. Sadly they didn't have a phone that had the exact features I wanted. I wanted a phone with a micro SD slot, which pretty much limits you to the Droid line. I also wanted a Micro SIM so that I can just transfer my current SIM. I suppose at some point only Nano SIM will be available and I'll be forced to get a replacement card. I see that you can trim micros down to nano size, but that seems risky to me. I also wanted Qi charging. I really don't understand why manufacturers haven't jumped on this bandwagon more. I know they have fast charging now, but the USB slot is so worn out on my Razr Maxx it's not even funny. I've had to wiggle the cord for about a year now to get a good connection. I know several people that have had the usb ports get bent out of shape and/or broken off the board. Wireless charging seems like a much smarter way to go in terms of this issue. I'm interested in how the newer type C USB connector works out. I am curious if people will have the same hardware life issues with the new design.

Hopefully, next week I'll have my Note 4. I'm excited to give it a whirl. I'm interested in trying out the USB host feature.

Thanks again for the knowledge!

I am also experiencing the Red Eye of Death.

I'm on a Macbook Pro running 10.8.5  I'm a little worried that my operating system and other related files might be too old.  And that this fix won't work for me.  I have a Razr Maxx HD.

Any Advice?
