I noticed alot of people having trouble with flashing ROMS based off the Xmas leak 98.72.8 while being updated to the 98.72.16 OTA, so i made some SafeStrap flashable zips that allow you to keep the .16 OTA, or another OTA based ROM, in stock slot and still being able to boot a .8 based ROM in another slot without that dreaded bootloop.

No need to fastboot the entire leak to flash leak based roms. Can fix the bootloops without a computer handy!!

Just flash the appropriate zip for whichever slot you are booting.

Use these if you get bootloops with certain ROMs that require you to be on the christmas leak. You can switch back and forth from stock OTA to custom leak based pretty easy.

I only have an xt912 CDMA so thats all i tested on. Any input is welcomed. I will reply when possible

Technically, it does the same thing. Except using the files in the OP, I believe you can put those files on your sdcard and flash without being connected to the PC. At least that is what I read from another post in our forum.

Thanks for this. It may come in handy if I ever boot back to me stock side ROM. (I am still on the .08 Christmas leak on my stock side.) I am running .16 ROMs on my non-stock side.

from the toolkits on this forum, only no computer needed.

I suggest If you plan on going back to boot the stock slot, --just in-case I'd have both on your sdcard.

But if you want to just boot the .8 all you really need is the .8.zip

yea put them both on your card , as a safeproof so you can get to whatever rom or stock if you need to. Its very simple, flash or activate a .8 rom and flash the .8 zip over top of it, when you wanna go back to a .16 rom , activate it , and flash the .16 zip over the rom. I dont know for sure, but I assume that you do not have to flash the file everytime if you are only switching between .8 only or .16 only. Only need to flash if upgrading or downgrading. I believe this is correct bc all the zip does is flash the kernel and once the kernel is active you can change to as many roms of that kernel until you gotta rom that needs the other kernel, then you flash it. Hope this isnt confusing, most of you know ive only been at this hobby for a few months and becoming familiar with everything.

excellent work drinxtir! a must have utility ON THE GO!

Yeah you only need to flash the .8.zip if you are booting an .8 based ROM, and .16.zip if you are booting .16 based rom.

It doesnt matter if you flash before or after the rom install, because they usually dont rewrite that partition.

Its easy to tell which you are booting because if you boot a .8 Rom with the .16 kernel, you will go into a bootloop.

and if you boot a .16 based rom with an .8 kernel you will boot into an error screen complaining about a "Cryptographic Verification" issue.

I'm working on getting it down to one zip that will parse the hash for each rom version and flash the appropriate kernel accordingly. But beins I wrote these on my phone and I dont get a whole lot of typing time, it'll take a few when I get the chance. I'm hoping to have something by tomorrow... but dont quote me on that.

Tried that tally it don't work our hopes of being able to boot a .8 ROM without a computer handy is fading fast do I flash these to my stock side ? Or do I keep my stock side clean and just flash them to which ever .8 ROM I'm trying to boot ? I'm kinda scared of flashing these to my stock side in hopes of trying to boot a .08 ROM especially when I won't be next to a computer to unbrick this phone if I do something wrong due to the very unclear directions. Could someone have pitty on my noobness and chime in like idk the first man I ever loved ....hicks where are you ?!!!? Hold my frickin hand ! .....please !

I think I got it to work, I just flashed the .8 rom and then let it boot loop but then went into safestrap after a little while and flashed the .8 zip and it booted!

No need to let it boot loop.  Just flash the kernel, then boot into safestrap and install and activate the rom you want.  Or, install your rom, activate it and then boot to fastboot mode, flash the kernel and have at it.   :)

Yeah I didn't think the boot loop was necessary but that's just how I got it to work  ;)
