Ok, so since we now know that the 211 leak will be the OTA. I figured I would save everyone some time and make a post for people from .181 that want to just install 211 now instead of waiting for the same exact thing to come from Verzion. This also works if you're coming from another leak!!!!!

First off, let's grab some things you're going to need!

Download the 211 update file: (put this on the root of your sdcard, as in, not in a folder or anything.)

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

Download the Unstuck Tool for 211: (extract this to your desktop)

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

Download Mattlgroff's RAZR Utility 1.6: (extract this to your desktop)

Please Login or Register to see this Hidden Content

Now that you have those files, you're ready to start! While there ARE other methods to installing 211. This is going to be a fool proof, "no-fail" method when coming from .181.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST 80% BATTERY LIFE BEFORE TRYING THIS!!

This is going to be a step by step install, broken down "barney style" for everyone!

Myself, nor droidrzr.com are responsible for your phone exploding or causing thermo-nuclear war.

Step 1: Get your phone into AP Fastboot Mode. To do this, power the phone off. Press and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time. After about 9 seconds, the screen flicker, release ONLY the power button.

Step 2: Plug your phone into your PC via USB Cable and open and run Matt's RAZR Utility to fastboot back to .181. (Yes even if you're already on .181, this will ensure a fresh complete stock system.)

Step 3: After fastbooting completes and your phone reboots, power your phone back down again.
Step 3a: Boot into the bootloader. To do this, press and hold all 3 side buttons at the same time. (power button, vol + and vol -)
Step 3b: From the menu that comes up, use the volume down button to highlight "Recovery" and use the volume up button to select it.
Step 3c: You should see a little Android guy, press and release both volume buttons at the same time and this will bring up the stock moto recovery.
Step 3d: Use the volume down button and highlight "Wipe data/factory reset" Press the power button to select it.
Step 3e: Go back through the stock moto recovery, this time highlighting "wipe cache" and press the power button to select it.

Step 4: Boot your phone into AP Fasboot Mode again using the same instructions in Step 1.

Step 5: Open and run the Unstuck 211 Tool and flash the 211 kernel. After it flashes, you should still be in AP Fastboot Mode

Step 6: Remember that 211 update file you already put on your sdcard? Now you need it.

Step 7: From AP Fastboot Mode, press and hold the power button for about 2-3 seconds, then release. This should power down the phone.

Step 8: Boot into the bootloader. To do this, press and hold all 3 side buttons at the same time. (power button, vol + and vol -)

Step 9: From the menu that comes up, use the volume down button to highlight "Recovery" and use the volume up button to select it.

Step 10: You should see a little Android guy, press and release both volume buttons at the same time and this will bring up the stock moto recovery.

Step 11: Use volume down to highlight "apply update from external storage" and press the power button to select it.

Step 12: Highlight the file named "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip" and press the power button to select it.

Step 13: Wait for the installation to finish. Hooray! You will now have the 211 OTA/Leak on your phone. Take the time to setup your phone and stuff now, or take time to charge your device. If you have 50% battery left, and don't want to wait to root, then by all means, jump ahead.

Now to root!!

Step 1: Boot your phone into AP Fastboot Mode. By now you should know how to do this. If not, please refer to Step 1 in the install process.

Step 2: Run the Unstuck 211 Tool to flash the .85 kernel. After it flashes, you should still be in AP Fastboot Mode.

Step 3: From AP Fasboot Mode, press and hold the power button for about 2-3 seconds and the phone should power off.

Step 4: Boot the phone into the bootloader menu, if you don't remember how to do this check with Step 8 in the install process.

Step 5: Use the volume down button to highlight "BP Tools" and use volume up to select it.

Step 6: Your phone will boot up normally, once it boots back up completely, Plug in your USB Cable.

Step 7: Ensure that USB Debugging is enabled by going to System Settings > Developer Options

Step 8: Pulldown the notification area and ensure that your phone is connected via "MTD Mode." (make sure it is NOT connected via Mass Storage)

Step 9: Open and run Matt's Utility Option #3 to root ICS. During this process, your device will reboot 3 times.

Step 10: Once root is complete. Power down your phone.

Step 11: Boot phone into AP Fastboot Mode again, again refer to Step 1 in the install process fi you forgot how to do this.

Step 12: Open and run the Unstuck 211 Tool and flash the 211 kernel.

Step 13: Press and hold the power button for about 2-3 seconds to power off the phone.

Step 14: Reboot the phone normally.

Step 15: PROFIT!

*IF THIS FAILS, RUN IT THROUGH AGAIN WITHOUT WIPING ANYTHING!

Congratulations! You are now successfully on the 211 OTA/Leak and are rooted! Enjoy!

You don't wipe cache while in AP Fastboot mode.

Hold down Power + Vol down until your phone powers off.

Then, hold down Power+ Vol Up + Vol Down to boot into Boot mode selection, hit Vol Down once to select "RECOVERY" then hit Vol Up.

Then you will see red Moto logo for a little bit, and it will change to the Android Triangle.

Hit Vol up + Vol Down to bring up the menu, scroll to "Wipe Cache Partition" and hit the power button.

It will take a second to wipe the cache, but then after that you can select "reboot system now"

Or just listen to Matt below, lol :D

Use the new 1.7 utility. The triangle is an old thing and should have been removed from 1.6

I am getting assert failed: mount("ext3", "MTD", "system", "/system") E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted when trying to apply update from SD Card.

This is after I followed steps 1-11 and tried to update but got a similar error though with Status 0 and without the assert failed part. So I redownloaded the update file and tried to apply again but got the error above. any ideas?

Great write-up! I'm going to wait for the OTA update to avoid having to wipe my phone and reinstall everything, since I'm still on .181 and it's only roughly a week away. Once the OTA hits the phones, can we use the method in

to root it to avoid having to flash the .85 kernel and then reflashing the .211 kernel?

Extract the whole thing. Don't run inside a zip.

Just a clarification please. I'm currently running the .75 leak. I should be able to follow your instructions and get to .211?

I have been following most of the developments with ICS from here and just want to say that all of the devs are great!!! Awesome site to be apart of!!!
