I AM NO LONGER SUPPORTING OR UPDATING THE UTILITY OR GUIDE ~ I HAVE GONE TO THE DARKSIDE ON .209 o.O
This guide includes step-by-step instructions for installing the 6.14.79 leak and instructions on installing a ROM once the leak is loaded. *The guide starts by assuming you are on 6.12.181.
If you are already on .79, and would like to just install a ROM, skip to section C of the guide.
DISCLAIMER: IF ANY OF THE PROCESSES DESCRIBED IN THIS GUIDE CAUSE YOUR DEVICE TO BECOME DAMAGED, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE.
Credit: I didn't write any of the "code" contained in the utility. The tool that I link is literally just a combination of Matt's Droid Razr Utility 1.6 and Rouxe41's ICSInstaller. Therefore, 100% of the coding credit goes to those two guys. Thanks for the awesome utils! Many other developer's work went into the utilities also. So thank you to all of you! (The full credits are commented inside the batch file.)
More credit notes: Thanks to pneumono for the help on combining the two utilities.
Please read all of the directions carefully.
Prerequisites:
- Downloads:
- downloaded to your PC.
- Phone:
- Phone must be running System Version 6.12.181 (Completely Stock) If you do not know whether your phone is running a completely stock system, you are better off restoring. Follow the steps below, under “Restore Directions” to restore.
- If bootstrap or safestrap is currently installed on your phone or you have ever installed bootstrap or safestrap on your phone, then you must restore. If this doesn’t apply to you, please skip past the restore directions below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Restore Directions
*THIS RESTORE WILL WIPE ALL OF YOUR DATA. Make sure it is all backed up. (I suggest using Titanium Backup from the Market.)
*During the restore, if you are watching the CMD window, you will see the following errors at some point:
1) "error: cannot load 'files\logo.bin'
2) "error: cannot load 'restore\cdrom'
Both errors are completely normal. They will happen every time the restore process is run. Don't worry. Just continue with the guide.
- Download the to you computer.
- Turn off your phone.
- Hold down both volume keys and hold down the power button simultaneously. After a few seconds, the phone should boot into the “Boot Mode Selection Menu”.
- Scroll down to “AP Fastboot” with the volume-down key and select it with the volume up key.
- Once in “AP Fastboot Mode (S)”, open the Droid Razr Utility on your computer.
- Choose the restore option in the droid razr utility. (Option 1).
- Follow the on screen instructions.
- After you follow the instructions, the program will proceed by “sending” a ton of files to your phone. Just relax and get a snack. This step will take a few minutes.
- Once the phone reboots, you are now on a completely stock install of 6.12.181
- Remember: You must re-root now b/c you have just restored. {Root directions are right below this section.}
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{SKIP THIS IF YOU ARE ALREADY ROOTED ON .181}
Rooting Gingerbread (6.12.181)
- Open up the "Combo ICS Install 0.3" folder on your computer and launch "Combo ICS Utility 0.3.batch".
- In the utility, choose option 1.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- During the process your phone will reboot twice. Once it does, you can continue with the guide.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part A: Installing ICS version 6.14.79
- Launch “Combo ICS Utility 0.3.batch”.
- In the utility, choose option 2.
- The utility will list things onscreen you must do before continuing. Do all of them!
- Accept all the on-screen prompts on your phone.
- Eventually, your phone will prompt you to reboot. Click reboot. *The utility may quit at this point. Don't worry if it does: step 3 occurs solely on your phone.
- After the phone reboots, you will see a progress bar. Wait for the process to finish. This step can take 15-20 minutes to finish.
- Once your phone reboots, it will begin upgrading files. Once you can see your lock screen, you can continue.
- Relaunch the "Combo ICS Utility 0.3.batch".
- Select option 3.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
- After the third reboot, you should have root access on ICS!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
At this point in the guide, if everything was done correctly, you now have installed the stock ICS leak.
If you would like to install a custom ROM on top of that, you can continue. Personally, I *highly* recommend that you install a ROM because it actually fixes a lot of issues that the leak has.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Part C: Installing Safestrap
- Relaunch the "Combo ICS Utility 0.3.batch".
- Choose option 4 in the utility on your computer.
- Press any key in the utility.
- When it's done, open up the app drawer on your phone.
- Launch "Safestrap".
- Click "Install Recovery". Watch you phone's screen.
- When you receive confirmation that the installation has succeeded, reboot your phone.
- Once your phone has booted into android, relaunch the "Combo ICS Utlity 0.3.batch".
- Choose option 5.
- Press any key to begin transfer.
- When the utility outputs "Process completed.", reboot your phone.
- {You can now close the "Combo ICS Utility 0.3" for good. It isn't needed for any proceeding section of the guide.}
- On reboot, hit the menu button when prompted.
- Scroll down to “safe boot menu”.
- Select with the power button.
- Select “Toggle Safe System”.
- Select "Yes - Enable Safe System". Let the process finish.
- Reboot phone when done.
- Now, boot into Safestrap Recovery again. (Hit the menu button on boot.)
*Advice: Don't use any ROMS that do not have "data on boot".
Here are a few ROMs that I have used myself:
- (CM9) (Gapps NOT integrated) (HAS data on boot) {Download the latest file from the bottom of the OP.}
- (AOKP) (GAPPS NOT integrated) (HAS data on boot) {Download the latest file from the bottom of the OP.}
- {Choose the latest file from the download page.} (Gapps NOT integrated) (HAS data on boot)
*Place the ROM .zip file on your external SD before continuing.
Part G: Installing a Rom [THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA! Back up your data in Titanium before continuing.]
- Boot into Safestrap Recovery if you have not already done so.
- First, select “wipe data/factory reset”.
- After it’s complete, wipe the cache partition.
- Next, go into “mounts and storage”. Format /system.
- And lastly, go back and navigate into "advanced".
- Select "Wipe Dalvik Cache".
- Go back.
- Select “install zip from sdcard”.
- Select “choose zip from sdcard”.
- Select “External SD card”.
- Now, navigate to the rom .zip file that you choose and select it.
- Scroll down to “Yes” to start install.
- When finished, DO NOT reboot.
---IF the ROM you chose does NOT HAVE GAPPS integrated, continue with the next section.-----
Part H: Installing Google Apps (Play store, gmail, etc..)
- Go to the main screen of safestrap again and select "install zip from sdcard."
- Select "choose zip from sdcard".
- Select "External SD card."
- Next, select the gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip. And flash it.
- Once finished, reboot your device.

If you found the guide helpful, like this post.
Here's some math for ya:
- Time it took me to make the guide + the utility :::: 4-5 hours
- Time it [probably] took Matt and the other devs to code all of the tools :::: <An extremely long time>
- Time it takes for you to like this post :::: 1 second.
