I'm totally new to this idea but once I heard about it I had to look into it. I unfortunately like to keep my phone updated so it works like intended but I'm sick of android 4.1.2, and I heard if I rooted my phone I could get the newest android version but I haven't come across anything for my version yet, is there any way to root my phone?
Please and thank you for any advice

If I'm understanding this thread correctly, a RAZR M XT907 with 98.18.94 (build # 9.8 1Q-94) has no hope for rooting, unlocking, flashing, Superuser usage, or CyanogenMod?

Dang. I received this phone as a SIM-swap from a Windows Phone, was hoping to do all that so I could do more than disable the Verizon/Motorola bloatware...

has anybody got kit kat update yet and if so have they got it rooted

Plenty of people have the KK update as it went OTA.
There is NO ROOT for it, and likely will not be in the foreseeable future - Unless you are on an unlocked device, then it's easily done in recovery as normal.
